I've been wondering about this since you started downloading so to confirm didn't you have the beta client installed? I believe it works if you have that because you would then not need to download the client, just redeem the code to have the EA linked to it.

All you need to do then is go to preorder.na.finalfantasyxiv.com and login using the account you use to log into the P4 beta client. Then redeem the code. Write down the code. Login into the beta P4 client, it will update. It will then ask to link the bonus content service account. Say yes. Log in again and it will say wait for early access.
