the new or old one? I played the old one and was bored. And what you don't know or realise is ffxiv was adveryised as a less time consuming mmo. Time consuming and effort are not the same thing. Why should effort = how much time you put into something? My point is, if they want to make a time consuming game, then let them make their game, there's a slew of other games that are less time consuming....no one is forcing you to play it....it's not like it's the only MMO on the market. It's a stupid as hell argument....lol, no matter how you spin it. If you don't have too much time to play, then there's like 20 other "casual" games out there better suited to your playstyle and time management.
Oh, and play Ninja Gaiden on the hardest mode, and tell me that there's no such thing as easy or hard....that's a ridiculous statement. Even though I can go through it on the hardest, doesn't mean it's not a difficult game, nor a challenge, and I've never see anyone argue that....lol, ever.
Tanaka isn't in charge anymore, hate to break the news to you. And secondly, when was XIV EVER casual? Aside from leves, everything else wasn't casual at all, I don't know which game you were playing....but it was definitely time consuming. Look at crafting in WoW, and then look at it in XIV....tell me which one is casual. I remember Tanaka saying that, and me and my buddy bought XIV on launch day, and played it for a week straight, and I remember him and I asking each other (we're both XI vets)...."How in the hell is this game casual?"....granted, it didn't bother us, cause we were kinda hoping it wouldn't be.
If you think I'm being "rude", then I'm sorry, but I'm tired of reading all these threads with the most asinine requests I've ever seen people make from a developer. Do you want to play XIV or WoW? Cause I bought XIV to play another FF MMO, regardless of how time consuming it is or whatever.....if they take it in a casual direction, oh well, I'll go play Tera, or Blade and Soul, or whatever else out there that is more time consuming to me, and requires me to do more. I'm not going to sit here and stomp my feet and throw a tantrum cause I'm not getting my way.
Lastly, again, for the last time....let SE make their freakin' game. If they want it hardcore, then they'll make it hardcore, if they want it casual, they'll do that....and if they want it in the middle, then so be it. They're the developers, NOT the player base, and I think the community has started forgetting that with the request a minute threads I keep seeing.

some info about me. I'm not a hard core player in the sence that I just play to have fun. But I'm also not a casual player as I can play any game i want for 6+ hours.
My opinion is leveling should take time. As the more time you spend leveling (from my pov) the better you are at said job or class. As you had alot of time to fine tune your skills and timing of spells.
What I don't want or like is it shouldn't take me 6 hours to do quests in a video game. It gets dull after a while, and people tend to leave in the middle of them. It took me 3-5 years to even get to the point of doing divine might in ffxi. Most due to having the "required" jobs leveled plus spending hours if not days getting help. I only got though COP after the level restriction because getting help for that was a pain under the lvl sync.
All a game should be is fun for anyplayer. SE wants more players, we need more players. If you chase away any new player that may be casual we will not have a very good game.
I feel like we're at an impasse because you don't get what I'm saying, so I'm going to leave this discussion alone, and leave the game in the hands of the people making it, because it's THEIR game.
All games aren't "fun" for any player....they never will be. And a game that strives to be "fun" for any player is going to fall flat on its face, because no side will ever be happy.
Kaze you must not have been to the fansite forums. PPL got upset at the game being advertised as a casual w/o much casual things to do. Which is why tanaka steped down and yoshida is in. He wasn't fulling the promise or advertisement that ffxiv was meant to be a casual friendly less time consuming game. Which in fact was ffxi major flaw. ffxi is all but a ghost town. After WoW launch ppl quir ffxi for WoW. ffxi has had a stead influx of players. I used to play ffxi 2 hours a day. And honestly it got unfun after a while till i got the means to play longer. Though I got time to play, I know what it like to not beable to play for very long.
As long as ffxiv isn't wicked solo friendly (which is infact npot the same as casual) i'm ok. There should be ways to make grouping up less time consuming.
.......and that right there tells me you have no idea what you're talking about, which is why I'm done attempting to reason with you.Kaze you must not have been to the fansite forums. PPL got upset at the game being advertised as a casual w/o much casual things to do. Which is why tanaka steped down and yoshida is in. No kaze what your not understanding is me. I'm not asking for WoW. I never really liked the game. It was to solo only for my taste. There is a difference beyween a solo friendly game has a casual friendly game.
I love grouping in mmo, which is why I play them. But wanting to get a quest done and it taking 6 hours to do it after 4 hours getting people up, from a linkshell and hunting random needers, it not very fun.
That is a needless time sink. It makes the quest not even worth doing more so if the item isn't that great.
ditto. Your assuming i'm a WoW player. Thpough I tried it out. I'm no WoW player. Try playing ffxi for 2 hours a day for a year. See how fun it is.
If only mobs could scale with the amount of people within a party. That'd be amazing
I STILL play XI, and I STILL love it, and I've been playing since launch. If you read what I've been saying, instead of picking and choosing what you want, then you'd have read I'm an XI vet. There are times I only play for an hour at a time, even back then, and I still loved it.....cause I loved the game regardless if I didn't hit level cap in a week....I never assumed you were a WoW player, and I never said that, I said what you're asking is stupid because you aren't the developer and they should be allowed to make the game as casual or time consuming as they want to. My other point was that if you want a game that's not time consuming, the market is rather full of them, it's not like there's only one game on the market for MMO's.
Oh, and next time you want to throw out false information, like "Tanaka stepped down cause the game wasn't as casual as promised" get your facts straight. He stepped down because of the state of the game (IE it was released horribly unfinished and with NOTHING to do in it, among other things), not because people complained about the time needed to play it, that's ridiculous.
