I think at the very least it should be an option to either sell the entire bundle .. or allow for them to be bought individually.
I know when I was selling. I expected singles to be the items bought from my stacks.

in 1.0 it was up to the player to set their items up as being able to be sold individually or as a stack... are you sure it isn't the people putting up the item for sale?
That's not an option in you think about it. If you allow to people sell/buy stacks as pack or a split of it when it's on the market, then people will only buy items from the lowest price/item in the market. That means that a single user can get all the sales on 20 items while his/her stacks don't run out. This way it's set gives more room for more sellers to have a chance to sell and not only the one that can farm them with less effort (which could be probably someone cheating, even it's against the game rules it's hard to detect). So, no. This way of market gives room for everyone and not just 'masters' of farming that would undercut the market price.Great points from both sides, but I think the simplest solution would just be to allow people to sell them either individually (and in a stack that people can peck away at) AND just in one large chunk. The option should be ours (as the merchant), and it should clearly define how the item is being sold on the market.
I think is fun how some people want the 1.0 without even waiting to see if this one turns out to be better. Restrictions are good. That your character isn't able to fly or run very fast makes the game great because you have to use ships, chocobos, teleports,... The market is the same, gives much more ways to have fun with it and lowers the risk of monopolizing the market.
It's not a technical thing. It's for the same reason you don't play poker with 8 jokers in the deck, you would be changing the game completely.

We all know that Lalas will take over Eorzea, do not resist
I agree with Dhodgie. 1.0 had options to sell it as either stack or singles, having one without the other causes inconveniences. I feel it should be in the sellers hands to decide if they want to sell in bulk or in mass individually. It's smart to have the option for both.
I hope they add the option for the stack to be sold as a stack or individually.
In 1.0 you did NOT have 40 slots to sell items in. You had I believe at most, 20.
In order for them to change the 'stack' vs. piecemeal thing, they'd need to lower your Retainer selling power.
I prefer the flexibility to sell 40 items at once.
And during Phase 4, I sold stacks of 99, gears, HQ items, stacks of 12, 24, and 5 packs of materia over and over all weekend. I easily made well over 200k this weekend...without really trying.
I still disagree with this sentiment. Wait a week or two and people will stop posting stacks of 99. If the option to buy piece by piece is added, it then becomes a very simplistic market where people buy only from the person with the lowest unit price.
As it stands now I can post a stack of 5 at 500; 10 and 800; and 20 at 1500. This will not be allowed in the proposed system.
I very much like the ability to sell varying stacks at differing per unit prices.

Just wondering, if I have a stack of an item and start selling them individualy that would be 40 spots on the MW. My question would be if i sell it at a smaller price than the people selling them in stack would his stack show at all on the MW? I know that from V1.0 the limit was 20 items showing in the search so that would be an inconvinience for everyone.
I love the official forums, they tell you to use the search for thread about what you wanted to talk but when you use it they judge for necro a thread.
buy the stack use what you need put the rest back up for sale, i don't see the problem
I'm sure I'm repeating what many have already said, but I only read the first 8 posts.
The reason there weren't single items when you looked is either because the market hasn't stabilized, yet. Everything will balance out soon. Stacks are less costly, sell faster and are more convenient for power crafters. Singles while costing more can sell more slowly. While the market fluctuates the bubble gum you posted for 110g just won't sell because Tom, Dick and Harry keep posting their garden gnomes for 109g.
Dats just de way it goes
