Anyone going to take a crack at why/how Lightning is in Eorzea?

Judging from her Fate dialogue, it is actually Lightning that somehow got transported to Eorzea. I haven't played any of XIII, but I was wondering if there is anything that could be deduced from its plot.

Is it possible that they just confirmed that XIV is part of the Dissidia universe and Lightning somehow got mixed up here?

I'm not completely up on FFXIII lore, but I believe Lightning gains the ability to travel between dimensions at some point. (In Lightning Returns I think?)

If you stick around to check the chat log in the Lightning FATEs, she herself says she doesn't know how she ended up in Eorzea.
As far she knew, she was sleeping.
And doesn't know where she'll turn up next.

The "sleeping" sounds like a reference to FF13-2 where she has "disappeared," which prompts her sister to go look for her and the whole time travel adventure to happen.

Final Fantasy franchise is made up of different worlds, and none have really intertwined (except in Kingdom Hearts and Dissidia). That being said, it is possible there is a gate that links worlds together or a supreme being calling forth their chosen ones.

I'm a bit of a RP person, and my character use to be on FFXI. His story how he traveled was through a linked inter-dimensional teleportation spell between the five Ministries of Magic in Windurst and the five Thaumaturge brothers of the Thaumaturge Guild. Don't forget, Shantotto is coming too, so she could be making some similar teleport spell to get here.

Or maybe Lightning is an astral projection passing through a dream she is having, and she isn't real per say. There's much to speculate without knowing the true backstory of her appearance in Eorzea. As far as I recall in the FFXIII world, Lightning hops time between Cocoon and Pulse, not other worlds or dimensions.

Well, the Historia Crux only connected various time periods in FFXIII's world, not XIV. However, I'm liable to believe SE has used her storyline in Dissida Duodecium 012 to explain her appearance in Hydaelyn -

the last the player saw of her in Dissida 012 was she disappeared along with Tifa, Kain, Laguna, Yuna and Vaan after being overcome by the manikins while trying to seal the rift into the Void - they were not 'reborn' as part of the usual cycle of war in Dissidia so other than 'fading away' (ala, permadeath), whose to say she was cast into the Void, eventually ending up in Hydaelyn due to the Calamity weakening the boundaries between dimensions?

The fact that when she shows up during the event FATE she mentions about being 'trapped' in a 'ceaseless cycle of war' seems to lend weight to a Dissidia link (not to mention her reference to 'sleeping' could be metaphorical for that above scene in the spoiler I posted above). Or else she's just referring to XIII-2 and the endless cycle of war in Valhalla. Either way, I guess we'll find out soon when the rest of the quest chapters begin.

I was under the impression that her "sleeping" was her crystal stasis between FFXIII-2 and LR:FFXIII.

I'm sure this question will get answered once we get the other three quests.
