I love Archer better than Lancer, Archer can't attacking while running or walking, so they still useful even when they avoiding any AoE attack from boss.
A PUG has dots, he actually has 2 of them. Once he gets at 15 from the class quest, Touch of Death. And another one at level 30, Demolish. The Dragoon has 2 dots as well and so does the Archer. THM has 1 if you don't pull from any other classes and the Summoner has 3 I believe if you don't pull from any other classes.

My guess is a well played MNK will be top DPS then Dragoon/Summoner/Black Mage will be relatively even. I'm still torn on what exactly to level but currently I'm leaning on the MNK since they will have the shortest GCD in the game from their Greased Lightning stacks. I didn't see a lot of people mention Summoner but as far as AOE goes Summoners and Black Mage will outshine both the melee DPS classes. It looks like Summoners will be the king of AOE since they can spread their dots every 10secs. At the end of the day play which every class you enjoy the most. Don't let armor, looks, or weapons determine what you play just let the gameplay decide.

LNC hits harder but PUG seems to hit faster so I guess both are even

"Best" mean "best output of damage" or "best in doing his job"? For the first, i sincerely don't know, maybe blm, maybe drg. For the second, i must admit that arc and brd are pretty amazing, simply for the "ranged attack + mobility" thing. A BRD can run around away from mob range, kiting while doing his dps job, still doing pretty damage while alive, take less hits, and so doing his job "better". So, if we are arguing in a perfect world where dps take no hits, go with blm and drg/mnk. In a normal world when you must move + damage move + damage and again move + damage, choose BRD.

BRD is more support than damage? or the other way around? Any Legacy Bard's in the house mind giving us some info on this?

Bards can be either support or damage depending on song-usage.
Their role will depend exclusively on your groups needs. Keep in mind you also lose 20% damage when singing, so thats where the movement speed is balanced when you need to become support/utility.

Bard is probably the highest damage right now. Seems like they are making them focus more on DPS then support judging by the changes in P4. I kinda wish they had made Bard focus more on support and had another ranged job branch out of archer that was more DPS focused (ranger or corsair, literally anything). To me it just makes sense that be bard is a support job, since that's what they did in FFXI. I guess this is a totally different game though so i can't expect it to perform the same way it did in another game.

BRD/BLM have the highest potential DPS

but they're the rng dependent jobs - a lucky streak of procs on either job and they're going to pull way ahead of the best played drg or mnk

on the flip side, a drought of procs is going to put drg and mnk ahead of the best played blm or brd

BLM moreso here, bloodletter resets should be much more steady for bards than the mage praying for a thunderstorm proc (not to mention firestarter)

Bard does seem like that's where its at, but on DPS enemy resistances also matter, I.E. piercing damage and what not
