I've also used a game pad since day 1 (played ffxi with one for years as well); had little to no issues; other than the targeting system; which is beyond all help at the moment.

I started beta using the keyboard and mouse but found it...odd would be the word. It didn't feel as natural as the other MMO's (not saying I WANT this to be another general MMO). The way the character moves, mapped keys, the action bar, ect. all very odd. Picked up a game pad and everything kinda fell in to place and seemed natural. I would really, and I mean REALLY, like to see a separate UI for the K&M. I shouldn't have to go buy a controller to play a COMPUTER game, especially after paying for a CE copy. If you are going to release a cross-platform game for the PC first, then put in a PC UI to begin with, then worry about the game pad UI later. Just sayin'....

FFXIV is not a PS3 exclusive with a PC hacked port or something... It is an official PC game as much as it will be a PS3 game. So why should we have to bare with a UI designed with PS3 in mind? Why should i buy a controller when i wanna play on PC?
I don't buy the a kb/mouse UI would give an unfair advantage. It is so not true. And if they made separate UI for PC and PS3 they could optimize the PS3 interface even more so no advantage anywhere here.
I'm a controller user and was hoping for a UI designed for a controller as the action bar is a nightmare to use and the equipment screen layout is clearly designed for mouse users as there's no grid structure making it a struggle to navigate it with a d-pad.

The problem is the UI is mainly designed for PS3 but at the same time they tried to make it work for PC as well.... It's trying to mix both but i don't think that will ever be possible... Even if they do improve it, it will never be as good as if they had separate UI or UI options.

If it was truly designed for mouse though we would have drag and drop icons and equip via right click, so neither side is gaining from this.
