Here is one more in support!
Most importantly we need to be able to kick those who have permanently quit. I have one member in my linkshell who quit the game, forgot to retire his pearl, and completely deactivated his SE account. He realized after the fact about forgetting to retire the pearl, but now he can't even access his character to do so (for lack of active account), but no one can kick his character from the shell either. Positively ridiculous!
Linkshell Message would be pretty nice, too.

All of the above, please!Being an officer and pearlsack holder of a large and active linkshell, I can say from experience that there are many issues with the linkshell system that desperately need to be addressed. They include, but are not limited to, as follows:
1) This is an obvious one. Resolve the glitch that frequently (I'd estimate 50% of the time) causes the game to crash when the linkshell member list is opened. This should have been addressed long ago, there's really no excuse.
2) For the love of god, allow pearlsack holders and linkshell leaders to boot members from the linkshell without them being online. This is a very large inconvenience when you have inactive members and the only way to free up space in the linkshell is to break the shell and remake it entirely.
3) Make the linkshell member list more detailed. As in FFXI, display each member's current location, rank, physical level, etc. in addition to whether or not they are online.
4) /lsmes. We need it. Enough said.
Possibly more to come.
And when you're done with that, it would be great if you gave us quests that everyone in the linkshell could participate in to "level up" the linkshell if we want & open up things like guild housing for linkshells, special guild color dyes to put on our shields or armor, and guild color barding for our chocobos (also please give us chocobos to ride on).
When you're done with all of that, please bring back the linkpearl color/icon next to our names (Like in XI) as opposed to these ridiculously ugly linkshell crests you've stuck us with. Seriously, a limited selection of primary colors in ugly patterns? I expected prettier options from Square-Enix, of all companies.

Currently, our LS leader is taking a break from the game, along with most my LS. Essentially, there are only 3-4 active players in our shell. This has been problematic in that we've been unable to pearl any new members. I apologize for the lack of knowledge - is there no current LS ability to create officers or 'sacks', as they were called in ffxi, who can create pearls and invite new members?

Sadly only the Sack holder can do that in any system. In this case you would have to do a full repearl and get the sack on another memberCurrently, our LS leader is taking a break from the game, along with most my LS. +1 for all the topics that have been mentioned on this thread so far (with the exception of the changing jobs while in combat....)
The only thing I'd like to see added to this list that I'm kind of surprised that nobody has added yet is the ability to promote someone to be the LS holder/leader. With the state the game is currently in, I'm sure that more than one LS leader has left the game or gone "inactive" for a long period of time and it is hard to manage a LS when you are not around. Our LS had this problem in FFXI as well when our leader stopped playing the game. We went over 3 years with him not playing. Thankfully, he kept his account active for that entire time so we wouldn't have to recreate the LS that was around since NA release.
Anyhow, give the ability to do more with promotions, get rid of the restrictions to LS size, give info about the people in your LS (class, rank/level, location, online status as well as "last online" info, sortable list that you can sort by whatever you want), /lsmes, more options for colors/shields including player created options.... simply more. I'm surprised that all this was not included in the first place or has yet to be implemented with how SE focuses on "group" play, then limits how to interact with your "group".

I'll add another +1 to this. LS leaders need all of these things so that we can better manage our groups without causing grief (i.e. shell breaking as others have mentioned.. it's a PITA).
Another +1 goes to the suggestion of LS based goals, leveling up the LS, LS based quests, things of that nature. I was disappointed to hear about the change to Companies (turning them public instead of private), as they would have provided group-oriented goals for LS's to work towards, which is something that really helps build a group and community. I sincerely hope that things like this are still on the table!

We really do need some more tools. Please address this SE.
