also, once you choose your starting guild, I think you're locked in until you finish the level 15 quest for that guild. After that though you're free to switch around. that said, legacy/1.0 players will piss through these.

I don't think she was hiding anything... it's the case for a few 1.0 players, myself included...
1.0 characters will start in a different location than we did in the last few phases; a new area to "pop" back in, so I'm not even 100% sure that our starting class will affect much (But yeah, story-wise I think you're right).
Also, it's the level 10 class quests that allow you to class change~

1) Arrive home in Gridania as CNJ
2) Do CNJ quests thru level 15
3) Do Main Storyline until I can re-join Adder
4) Breathe?
5) Not sure!
In the opening I got for Tyger I had to choose what classe I wanted to start with then it went to the encounter with the Masked Mage (just like new characters). Tyger then appeared in the same place the Warriors of Light did in A New Beginning complete with the same teleport effect (still all in cs). She then went walking off the screen. I can't remember if there was the scene talking about the city as it pans around it. I chose Limsa for phase 3 so I don't know how it differs in the other cities, but instead of riding the ship and getting off at the docks she instead walks into Limsa over one of the bridges from La Noscea.

1.Start out in Limsa Lominsa (my hometown) with Arcanist as my main class (Summoner is my fav! Squeee.)
2.As soon as I get the lv10 I'm going to unlock Limsa Lominsas other classes.
3.If Leves aren't unlocked yet I'll focus on unlocking Leves.
4.Proceed with Main Quest until can't anymore.
4a.Unlock all classes from Ul'dah to Gridania.
5.Hit lv20 with Arcanist and switch to Conjurer to do Conjurer quests up to 20 if I can (lv31).
6.Level Botanist and gather supplies for Culinarian and Carpenter.
7.If Fisher is available I'll level that one too.
8.Then Culinary and then level Carpenter. XD
