    Security Token Question

    My security token is getting older - I'm wondering if it dies what information I need to get back into my account. I'm sort of scared that it will die and SE will give me trouble about getting back in (I assume I would have to call them). I thought it would be good to keep a record of whatever info I would need.

    Any ideas? I've read about some one-time emergency-removal password you can set in your account but I don't see that option in mine. I have the hardware token, not the software one.

    I'm in the same boat, though I do have a back-up token I can activate, plus one on the way with my PS3 Physical CE that I've pre-ordered. Also, you can always begin using the Phone app. Personally I'm sticking with my physical token for now.

    "One-time password" applies to both the physical token and the phone app. It's what they refer to as the additional PW we have to enter when logging in.

    A quick google search, I located this page http://support.na.square-enix.com/fa...6oj7kp14dupgr4 It looks like you'd need to select products&services as Category then SQEX Security token as sub-category, then describe your issue.

    I'm sure this has happened to many people, hopefully if we end up needing it as well, it won't be a problem.

    When you added the Security Token to your account, you set up an emergency removal password. I'm not sure if you can change this, if you've forgotten it.

    When (if!) the battery ever runs out (or you lose it like I did) you go to https://secure.square-enix.com/accou...vc/coercioncan (linked off the login screen) to remove it with that password. You can then register a new one or register the smartphone app.

    You can't ever re-register your old token though - I'd lost the one I bought when they were first released for FFXI, searched everywhere for a week, before giving in and using my 1.0 CE token. I found my XI one a few weeks later in the fireplace :x Bloody kids. It's now sitting in my 1.0 CE box - I've just checked and it still works!

    I don't recall setting up an emergency removal password at all. The link looks like it relates to Software Token only? Or are you certain that an emergency removal PW also applies to the physical token?

    I wouldn't worry about it anyway. Think about how long a watch battery lasts for, and it's powering a device 24/7, not just for 10 seconds a day.

    This is what I'm thinking too. I can't find it. I don't want to use a software token...

    Re-reading this link, it appears to be for the software token only. So those of us with the hardware token are out of luck? I seem to remember (if you don't lose it) that the serial number of the token is important to have. This is the type of stuff I'd like to put in a list and upload to my google drive.

    For instance:

    -Character Name
    -Login Name
    -Current password
    -Token Serial
    -Birthday?
    -Address? Other personal details?
    -Email account?

    While optimistic, it doesn't help the person who will eventually be in the situation where their token stops working - for whatever reason.

    Maybe I should do a support chat with SE and ask them this question.

    When my FFXI token died all I did was go into my account page, put in my tokens ID (the UPC on the back of it) and if it matched up with the one you had registered you where able to take it off of your account.

    I did that and ordered a new one. Once I got the new one put it back onto my account.

    The question is, how did you log into the account page without entering the One-Time PW generated by your Token (because it was dead)?
