I'm frustrated by player misconduct...

I did a level 40 faction leve recently with a random guy I didn't know but I had partied with earlier and he seemed kind of nice. Well....we do the leve and takes like 20 minutes and was quite painstaking and then a chest appears after last guy and a scarred kite shield drops which can turn into a vintage kite shield. Frustrating thing is....he got the shield: a conjurer who couldn't use it. I'm the 31 gladiator sitting there thoroughly dissapointed and he hasn't even spent a point doing gladiator. After 30 minutes of pleading to get the shield and how I would really appreciate it he proceeds to finally "yield" and ask for a lantern shield in exchange and i said ok. So i port him to limsa lominsa and i get the shield and try to trade...he does nothing...then he logs off. How does one deal with this sort of frustration? I just about tore my eyes out on this one

Well.. it is an MMO.. stuff like this happens all the time... but something that could help prevent this type of thing would be a lot system like in 11.. or something along those lines. Sorry that happened to you btw :c I only do guildleves and stuff with my ls so i've never dealt with things like that so far in xiv.

Blacklist him and do not deal with people like that basically. There are alot of trash players out there, alot less then launch but still alot.

Well to be fair the shield was rightfully his, he won it fair and square IMO.

Of course he may not have been able to use it but he could sell it and thats just as valid of a reason for him to have it.

Better luck next time.

Conjurers can use shields. (I don't know if that specific one can be used though.)

Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about what happened. People like that aren't exclusive to this game by any means, it's just the nature of MMOs. When you bring thousands of people from different lifestyles/backgrounds/upbringings together like that, you're bound to find an ass here and there.
In the future though, it's better to trust your friends, LS mates, and players with a good reputation and/or no widely known history of screwing people over just for their own gain. Just because you grouped with them once and they seemed fine doesn't necessarily they aren't one of the evils.
Now, I'm not saying not to trust anyone. People like that are in the minority. Most players (especially past FFXI players) should know how fast reputation can spread.

Conjurers can use shields. (I don't know if that specific one can be used though.)

Mage types can only use Wood based, leather based and Lantern shields from what I remember.

There are two big determing factors in the winnings here. First off, who spent the faction points on the Leve. If it is someone you do not know, and they spent the points on the leve, you have no leverage to take their points and award, unless they are just really nice.

Second, Did you actually check to see if the shield was useable by DoM? It doesn't matter if there's no points in gladiator. 'Sentinel' is what counts for shield usage. 'Not' Gladiator.

My Conjurer used a notched buckler. Clearly metal. It varies per the shield.

Those are also in the same shield category (Bucklers) as Bladed/Lantern Shields.
Kite shields, Hoplons, Round shields, Peltas and Scutums are DoW only.

Well maybe check his char, maybe he has a gladiator high enough, I might keep something like that for when I can use it. Especially in this game where having more then one job at 50 isn't impossible.
