PS3 Gamepad Drivers

Hello all!

I'm aware that there are a couple of threads briefly recommending various 3rd party software for using a PS3 gamepad on the PC, but I was just looking for some more depth or opinions...

Obviously, I'm wanting to use a gamepad, but I was wondering what the majority of you recommend?

The two most popular seem to be Motioninjoy and Scarlet Crush; what's the difference between the two and which would you recommend? I'd used Motioninjoy during 1.0 and tested Scarlet Crush out during phase 2 (used my PS3 for phase 3). Does Scarlet Crush literally "trick" your computer into thinking it's an Xbox controller? There's not much that would annoy me more than holding R2 and seeing XYAB pop up instead of X^O[]

I'd put my vote on Scarlet Crush. I've tried em both, they both will work, but Motioninjoy has always felt very sketchy to me, and to actually get it fully uninstalled so that it would stop recognizing controllers and let Scarlet Crush take over I ended up having to remove registry entries. Not very trustworthy software there.

And yes Scarlet Crush does essentially make the computer recognize it as an XBox device, however at least specifically to FFXIV I believe there's an option that you can tell it whether you want it to display the buttons as XYAB or X^O[]. That's something that would be determined by how individual games choose to handle/program it. A lot of games I'd guess would probably just label them as Button1, Button2, Button3, etc. but I haven't really done any testing of this myself or even used the controller recently for any games.

I understand that masking the PS3 controller as Xbox would therefore let me easily play any other game with a PS3 controller, which does seem easier (not that I ever intend to play anything else).

Think my main scepticism with Scarlet Crush is that it took me about 5 tries before I actually installed the correct drivers the first time =/ I'll have to make sure I get them right this time (I did a good job at messing up my brother's computer! Oopsie)

Yeah, I'll agree with you in that the install instructions for Scarlet are not the clearest in letting you know which of the attached files you need to download, etc.

I have also heard about but not personally experienced yet a supposed problem where the Scarlet Crush drivers just randomly stop recognizing the controller and the driver needs to be reinstalled, but I still think I'd choose that over the shady Motioninjoy stuff. So it's not like Scarlet Crush is 100% perfect, but overall seems the better--or at least cleaner--choice IMO.

Got sent this a while ago but i have no probliems with my (Wired) Logitech.
The wireless one gave me many probliems during raids in 1.0.

This video installs Motioninjoy =$ I was happy using them before, but I've since been informed on how shady it is and now prefer to stay away from it ^^; Apparently it links to servers in China for some unknown and pointless reasons, so I'm a little "aaaahhh..." about it! Thanks for the input nonetheless =)
