Why would you segregate Legacy players from new players???

I thought the biggest excuse for this was the economy balance, but you already nerfed everyone's gil down to 10% of what it was.

You are taking your longest supporters, and making it more difficult and uncertain that they will be able to get friends new to the game to PLAY WITH THEM on the same servers. I will be pretty upset if any of the 5 or 6 people I've talked into picking up the game can't get on my server.

New characters can be created on legacy worlds, so the issue won't be with getting your friends onto your server (unless it becomes full). The issue would be if you wanted to go to a non-legacy server with them.

I think it's silly, personally, for new people to have hangups about playing on legacy servers. But the concern is definitely out there because there are some new players that absolutely refuse to play on one. :/

You have the wrong end of the stick.

There will be 'Legacy' Servers, which are not for 'Legacy' players, but for any characters created in 1.0. These servers are open to all players, i.e. those from 1.0 and all those joining and creating new characters in 2.0.

There will also be brand new 2.0 Servers, these servers are open only to new characters being created for 2.0.

Some people feel they want to start on a brand new world, where everyone starts at the same level (1) - a fresh new start which brings and "the same and fair opportunity for all". There is no economy, no high level friends to help you out in the beginning, no high level crafters who can churn out goods in the market, no high level gatherers. Some people play the game like a race, and they want to all start at the same line. If that is what they want, let them have it.

There are also people who prefer to enter a world with an existing economy, with higher level players who are ready to give help and advice, and also people who have higher level crafters who can help things. A ready supply of materials, armour and weapons to make etc. They don't think it's a race, and realise that it isn't difficult to find your own place in the market/economy if you put in the time and effort. If that is what they want, let them have it.

There is no forced segregation - you choose where you want to start.

actually there kind of is because those said legacy characters (meaning players from 1.0) Can NOT tranfer to one of the new non "legacy" servers and one of the reasons said was due to the economy and they didn't want those 1.0 players to dominate the markets. To be a legacy player and want to play on one of the new servers you have to create a brand new character.

I honestly don't care about that. I'm very fond of my Rannie here so I won't be making a new character on a non legacy server. I'll stay with my legacy servers.

They were segregated because of the economical impact that 1.0 players could have on a new server. Even though our gil was slashed by 90%, people that had a lot of money still have a lot of money since prices from vendors were adjusted in accordance with ours, so the value of gil didn't change.

If you want to continue playing your 1.0 char your friends can always join you on your Legacy server. From the looks of things, it doesn't seem like any of the ones from the NA/EU region will be filling up before the transfer period ends.

Well, it did get a number of people to reply to this thread. Including yourself. So, I guess, you don't have anything better to do either?

Wasn't there something about opening up paid server transfers a few months into service?

My friends are going to join the server I'm in anyway, though. So I don't have a problem with it. But if they add server transfers after launch, that would be the perfect remedy. The new servers' economies would have a chance to thrive and will eventually get to the point where a rich player from a Legacy server wouldn't do much damage to it.

And if there are no plans for it, if enough people ask for it then it will happen anyway. We're blessed with developers that listen to our critique.

you know at first I was happy to see that Sargatanas was a NA/EU data center cause I wouldn't have to worry about transferring but tbh if I could transfer my Legacy character to a non Legacy NA/EU server, I probably would.

I mean I understand why they did it this way but then there's times like in beta I see how people were treating new people in shout who were asking questions on Sargatanas, and they either weren't answering or some were just being douches. And that kinda annoyed me, most of us want new players to come to our servers and we'll help anyway we can (I know I try to answer questions when I see them), but its THOSE kind of ppl that drive those new players away & end up making them think we are all Elitist jerks on Legacy.

So kinda makes me sad that I get lumped into that category, I would transfer if I could but more then likely its Sargatanas for life cause I don't want to pay to transfer later and what not.

I am not sitting around thinking of the possible ways to gripe about Legacy and the dead horse it is. That's what I mean by nothing else better to do. People are just sitting there, with the beta down going over reasons over something that has been said 1,000 times. GRAH!!!!!
