Question about names and transferring servers

I have 2 characters both with the exact same name on 2 different legacy servers. I want to transfer both of them to a different server at the release of ARR.

Character 1 was created in 2010.
Character 2 was created in 2012.

Character 2 is my main character and I want that character to have the original name that I have for both characters. According to the notes regarding names, Character 1 will have precedence when choosing a name. However, if I log in on Character 1, change the name on Character 1 to something else, and then log in on Character 2, would I then be able to choose my original name on Character 2?

If anyone has any light to shed on this or a link to where this question has been answered, that would be great.

Character transfers will occur at the start of phase 4 and the deadline to submit a server transfer application is July 15. You'll be unable to change your name for Character 1 before any of this happens, I'm afraid.

I'm referring to the name change that will happen at the start of Phase 4. Most games, for example, will check to see if the name is available upon log in and if it is you can, well, log in. If that were the case for 14, at the start of phase 4 I would be able to change the name on Character 1 (as the rules of the character transfer say you're allowed to) and then log in on Character 2 and keep that name.

I had a similar situation when servers merged (from saronia to Sargatanas) one was my original conjurer (made at launch) and my main tjat I had played since my return in feb til now. I wanted to move them both to the same server but keep character #2 as little pet.
It was just a matter of logging on to the primary character before logging on to the secondary one. It will give you a prompt that the character name is already taken, and to change it, while still on the log in screen.
At least, thats how it was with server merge ^.^
I would assume (and hope for you) that it's the same ^.^

I think it would work just like you said. As long as you change the name on character 1 you should be allow to keep it for character 2. But sadly i guess you have to test that out yourself at release or wait for a dev to explain this.

just like all games your gonna be forced to change the name of the one you moved.

we do get to remake our appearance & change our name at launch.
