Get it? HYD (AELY) N Seek? Hide-aely-N Seek? Hide-N-Seek? He he he....he he he...oh ho ho ho ho...nya ha ha ha ha...I am so funny...um...right...where were we?
HYD N Seek is a community event inspired from my days on FFXI, but also encouraged along by Denmo's very own successful community event. I really think we should make community events a constantly occurring thing -- even within the beta itself-- "the more impractical the better".
In this community event we will be playing something akin to Hide-and-Seek. This event will take a lot of honesty from my fellow players, but being me, I believe all of you will keep to your word! Huzzah!
In FFXI, I used to gather a group of players around to host a Hide-and-Seek game. It always turned out to be really fun, and we used some form of communicative means to keep everyone apprised of the goings on during the game.
In this rendition, we will create one to two linkshells (depending on number of participants) where the seeker(s) can taunt and generally be all seeker-ly toward his HYDing fellows.
For every ten players, we will choose another seeker to help find them (unless the number of participating players is below 20; anything below 20 participants will only have one seeker). Each seeker, therefore, would need to find one player to replace them in the next round (the number of rounds will be determined by INTEREST).
Each HYDer will pick a hiding spot within the previously announced zones and stay there until the seeker(s) sends word via LS that he/she/they have found someone. Each HYDer will want to try to dress in such a way as to blend in with the environment around them, specifically with other NPCs. When played within a city, each HYDer would be emulating the mannerisms of an NPC, dissolving all PC characteristics to avoid detection (For the best results, you'll want to make sure the character you create for the event is adequately nondescript) ((It is important to note that this is not wholly necessary, just recommended stuff)).
All seekers must choose the option to turn off names on their screen. This way, finding HYDing players will be more challenging. Cheaters are meanie-faces who deserve to be run over by a mob of lalafells led by Denmo. Please do not cheat! I know none of you would do such a thing anyway, but it must be said, regardless.
All seriousness aside, this event will be allowed to spiral out of control, and into ridiculousness, hilarity, and the like, for the sake of FUN. As a community event, I'd prefer it if we didn't take this so seriously that it doesn't become enjoyable anymore. ^_^ I just thought we could try adding other events into the mix, you know? If it doesn't work out, then obviously we should all start dancing and causing server overloads and the like, as a remedy for boredom!
Event Placement: Inside Limsa Lominsa (Meet at Adventurer's Guild)
Time: Friday, 28 of June, 3 PM PDT (Use the Time Zone Converter!)
World: Gilgamesh
Cake: Optional
Advice?: Create a character on Gilgamesh early enough to be able to acquire inconspicuous gear!
Things to Consider:
1) It would be beneficial to be able to mark the current seeker somehow. Say, taking out a mammet minion, or wearing a level 1 mask. I know that the minions would have to be paid for, but I have to wonder if the masks I have in my inventory can at all be traded, as that would make for a good marker as well. We don't need such a thing, it's just a thought.
2) How will the seeker confirm that they've found a HYDer? My suggestion would be by sending an LS message "I found you...I think...whoever you are...um, are you a pc? Character standing at <position> in <zone>? Has <description>? I eatz you."
Concerns:
1) Potential for Ennui?
2) Organizational Viability?
3) More Cake?
4) Banner Please?
