Arcanist Lore

I know that Arcanist won't be implemented until launch, so I'm sure most of the lore surrounding the class will be input then.. But did any of you Lore Geniuses find any lore during beta 3.1 about the arrival of Arcanists? I know the Job quests will elaborate on the lost arts of summoning and the scholars of Nym, but my hope is there is some kind of lore explaining the presence of Arcanists in Eorzea. Sure the guild was always in Limsa, but I'm hoping they don't just throw the class in with no explanation. I didn't spend much time in Limsa, so I'm hoping maybe some of you read something that would indicate an explanation Thanks in advance!!

The same thing they were in 1.0, the port authority, the customs house. Yes, carbuncles are magical sniffing dogs, there are pictures to prove it! I just don't have them with me right now

Yep I'm a little familiar with them^ ^ I was more interested if there will be lore or story explaining why players are now able to train as Arcanists or if they will just be tossed in as if we always could be ACN.

I wouldn't mind a lore explanation as for why they ditched those snazzy looking steampunk staff things. I know why SE did it design-wise, but there must be an in-game reason for it other than the retcon stamp.

I didn't talk to many NPCs in Phase 3 since I'm trying to keep things somewhat fresh, but there is a structure in Iron Lake named after Nym. Wonder if that will have any significance.

They're custom agents who write down names and belongings into a ledger. I think it's pretty easy to explain, the book will always be on hand for them to write things down. Easier to explain that than why they had the staves in 1.0 lol. I'd like to see the explanation as to why they can summon Carbuncle myself, course that won't be told till launch I'm sure.

The practices of the Arcanists -- or at least the ones we have now -- came to Limsa from across the Southern Seas (according to the main site). It's possible that the title of Arcanist existed in Limsa since before Bahamut appeared, but the discipline as we know it did not. These new practices, including the ability to summon Carbuncle, could have come to the city after the Sixth Umbral Era and been adopted specifically by the already existing Arcanists' Guild in the city.

Alternatively, just the geometric patterns used for spells could have been known and used prior to now by the existing Arcanists. Summoning Carbuncle (again according to the main site) requires special crystals, so perhaps the import of these crystals wasn't established until after the game went down. Though that wouldn't explain why the Arcanists would have been using staves before when books are definitely the more logical choice given how the class conjures its magic.

At least, that's how I'm going to justify the sudden change unless/until we get an official explanation for it.

Urianger was an arcanist in 1.0. There was another one in the ALC quest, too. They have that steampunk staff that looks a bit like a teapot on a stick.

I'd prefer to think of him as a summoner and am praying to the Twelve that he serves as our "mentor" for the job in question.
