I got a kick out of that statement, personally.

Trying to fool a fish into impaling itself on a sharp, metal hook is "conversation with nature"?

Sounds more like premeditated assault, or an ambush, to me lol.

However, I do like the sound of this bit...
This is not to say we’re not thinking of other things. For example, maybe you fish up a treasure map, and that map leads to a new quest- we are planning things like that.
    That's very intriguing.

As though fishing may not pay off in terms of the fish themselves... but of what else you may catch along the way.

Also, it's good to see that Yoshi-P has his mind in reality regarding the RMT, how they'll find a way to get around mechanics regardless. Which tells me there's other means they'll be implementing to deal with them.

As someone who saw her favorite class (BTN) dumbed down in the Alpha Videos, I understand your panic. But after I played it, I realized how much they had fixed what was wrong with the class. They lowered the button press amounts in BTN too. But it helped me realize that most of the button pressing in gathering was pointless anyway. There's no need to go through about 3 menus to gather one thing.

Fishing was great in FFXIV but it was not perfect. For example, your choice of bait had little effect on what you caught. Your stats didn't really matter either. If you had the most high in bait in the business, you would still catch things like crayfish. If you miss timed your "button press" by a split second, the fish got away and you lost your bait. And that stupid cap on how much you could catch was annoying, it wasted your bait and your time. Plus it was the slowest class to play, incredibly slow. Is it any wonder why botting was so rampant?

Based on my experience with BTN in the beta and based on the current information available here's my hope for fisher.

-Bait will go from no importance to vitally important
    -Stats will be meaningful
-The amount of fish variety should bloom into the hundreds, creating a feel like Pokemon
-Sizes of fish will be recorded and rewarded.
-Weather conditions can make forecasting important to help people find the fish they need to add to their collections.
-Aquariums in housing or mounting fish Can I have it?

There are many positive routes to go with this. I know it's hard to accept now, but please be patient and have an open mind.

I'm going to wait until phase 4 and see how it plays out before I start making judgements.

I imagine it will be something similar to Minecraft or the original FFXI fishing; you cast your line, wait for a hit, then grab your fish.

Fishing was heavily botted in FFXI because you could sell some fish for decent vendor gil, and then there was the moat carps.

As long as they keep vendor purchasing prices extremely low (near 0), people will only sell them on the market. So, even if RMT wanted to bot fish like crazy, they'd could only do good things for everyone by supplying cheap fish for everyone to freely purchase or not, as opposed to artificially inflating the currency and reducing the purchasing power of other players.

As to the specific topic at hand, I really just want FFXIV fishing to be like zelda fishing. I'd wait another year for that if it was necessary... but I can see why there's a place for casual fishing... and though I will always prefer more awesome fishing, Yoshi seems to think more people want it to be casual... and I can respect that.

If you make fish worthless, you sacrifice the entire class just to prevent botting. This kills fishing. AFK

OP I agree with you on this. There are lots of threads on Fisher (which have been ignored by the dev team and the majority of the playerbase till now... if the general forum populace hadn't been ignoring us, we who have been complaining would have been trolled harder and the SE Defense Force Volunteer Brigade would have come over in greater numbers).

Most fishers you find in these threads are good people, affable, patient; but now feel like we've been getting the runaround for far too long now. It's inconceivable that any battle class, for example, would not have been ready by Beta 3. The information about Fisher that Yoshida shared in this interview, is the same exact information that he shared in the English Live Letter, is the same exact information that he shared in a Letter From the Producer waaaaay back in the day.

There is no new info, and despite our hope that Yoshi and the dev team have it all well in hand, it all LOOKS very much like fishing is just the bottom of the barrel (no pun intended), and they really just can't be bothered to look at fisher until literally every other aspect of the game is finished.

Fisher isn't the favorite class of most people, and that's fine, but there are people that like it. And it's a little galling to see the game's executive producer tell gaming websites that your gathering class is going to lose an active play element, and is going to lose any money-making abilities (at least any money-making abilities "that RMT can exploit", whatever that means... RMT can exploit ANY money-making activity...). We find it a little galling that literally EVERY class from 1.0, AND every job, has gotten a COMPLETE redesign for ARR, *EXCEPT* Fisher. Fisher is the one that is going to have to wait. We wonder what the point of 'fishing for personal achievements' is, since EVERY class has their OWN class achievements. We wonder how 'a personal fishing log' is in any way special, since EVERY single class has their OWN battle/crafting/gathering log.

It's just a frustrating situation is all. No "omg this game gonna fail" or anything like that, it's just a bit frustrating and the people that did put the time (lots and lots of time) into leveling the job don't want to see it made useless.

I want to throw out my line, having chosen the perfect rod and bait, and wait until I feel a bite (controller vibration). Then struggle with a fish to haul it in without breaking the line.

That is fishing. If they get rid of waiting for a bite, or the struggle of landing a fish, then it isn't fishing. Fishing is relaxing because of the process... not because you go to sleep!

Fishing all day and not getting a single bite sometimes: That is fishing.

Well, actually... The biggest problem i had with Fishing in 1.0 was that i wasn't able to talk while fishing. I didn't have time to answer a question through /tell or /linkshell chat with a simple "yes" or "no". The reason was that when i did, i would miss my "sweet spot" for the fish i was trying to catch and would have to wait for the angle arrow to return to that same spot. By the time it got back at the "sweet spot", the fish would get away.

    Every single time...

    That was extremely frustrating.

For now, i'm curious what fishing is going to be like, because like most of you here i have no clue how it will work based on what Yoshi-p has told us so far. I'll have to wait and see for myself.
