Not only did I read the interview, I watched it take place live! :O Please refrain from using condescension in place of an argument.

I wasn't being condescending at all, I was asking a legitimate question.

"Clearly stating" that fishing will be less about button-mashing does not necessarily equate to lack of involvement, and because that's all that's really been revealed, it could just as easily work out that you've got a more intuitive, concise gathering mechanic than simply "press Enter five times to mine fish". We won't actually know until we get to see it/try it ourselves. Once that time comes, critiques for or against the new system would have a lot more ground to stand on than what everyone's basing assumptions right now.

Of course I'll wait to try it, but when his prime example of fishing is something to do while you're waiting in line for a raid is telling to say the least.

I don't think I will, I'm glad I got the class to 50 while it was somewhat fun and engadgeing.

The problem, and this literally just hit me, is that bots will completely corner that market. Because he's making it so dead easy to bot, whatever few fish might have some worth due to crafts will be controlled by the bots.

Oh don't worry, bots won't be involved because they will have absolutely nothing of value to bot for! Isn't it genius? <3

Well, I'd be a lot more productive in fishing if I could just load up the game, fish with the press of a button, and watch Youtube or a movie. That way I'm not bored out of my mind doing a fishing minigame once every 10 seconds for the span of a few hours.

Fishing minigames and one-button fishing is basically the difference of 30 minute fishing and 2hr fishing.

Or to battle RMT you make so anyone can do the RMT practices (allowing anyone to just cast and catch all day) rendering RMT bots useless. Just a thought. :\

Sure I haven't played it but think about what he's saying. Fishing has basically no more market value. Fish will be obtainable by "chatting". His general attitude and insights already seem like something not all engaging and I'm hoping expressing concern now will allow change before its too late. D:

Posted this in the other big fishing thread, but this is wrong. Fish will still be required in cooking and alchemy.

Whether or not the mechanics behinds fishing are going to be nerfed to hell will remain to be seen, but the way they're talking, there will be some thought to it for those who really want to pursue it, such as rod and bait choice, as well as weather and season factors. Based on this, I don't think it will function identically to how Botany or Mining is now.

Yoshida, and the translation on this, was a bit back and forth. I think he wasn't so much saying that there will be no button pressing, per se, but that "extra" (and impliedly unnecessary) button pressing he was not in favor of, and also requiring that those presses be timed. Track record for the rest of HELM is pretty good so far, so we will have to wait and see. He did, however, stress a few times that this was really about communing with nature and passing the time while waiting for others.
