I just don't see how there can be such diversity between splitting classes like Summoner and Scholar in the difference of what, 5 abilities when all the other base abilities are still there? Do jobs still get Carbuncle? I don't see why they wouldn't if the base class could.
They've already said you lose carbuncle when you're on the job.. first case I can think of where you will lose (some) class abilities when you have the soul/job crystal equipped.

I think at this point we're just wildly speculating until we can actually try it out.. it'll give some in-sight into how future branch jobs may work though.

I don't know that I'd really look at it as losing an ability. More like there's just one summon ability, and you call out the specialized pet for your current job/class when you use it.

Do we have any information regarding whether they are doing away with having to have two class requirements to unlock a job?

If not, I think Arcanist + Conjurer = Scholar and Arcanist + Thaumaturge = Summoner... wouldn't that do away with the concerns of having two jobs available immediately upon lvl 30 of one class, in addition to also having to obtain separate souls (+ abilities) for these jobs?

Nah it's losing it. SMN gets access to Titan, Ramuh, Garuda and Ifrit confirmed so far (and I think Leviathan?). So it's not just a one button summoning ability based on class. Like I said in another thread:

It's how people found out that jobs like BLM and WHM won't be using the same abilities as before (BLM now gets ARC + a mystery class, likely ACN, WHM gets THM + a mystery class, likely ACN).

It was always needing one more class for the job. As the job you get access to 2 other class's abilities. Example: WHM required in 1.0 to have CNJ 30 + GLA 15 but could also use abilities from PGL.
