Lightning in XIV

I can see it now. Lightning is fighting Gilgamesh in the XIII-2 Colosseum place when Gil tries to run away into the Void. She hitches a ride with Gilgamesh and they both end up in Eorzea.

"Good" fan service is a tricky thing. I welcome with open arms non-character things like magitek armor and limit breaks or locations like the gold saucer. But as much as I love the characters, I don't want to see Cloud, Lightning, Squall or anyone dimensionally warping into the Eorzea. Gilgamesh is the only character to do so between games because it's a recurring joke fan service. Doing so with other characters only makes this awesome "inside joke" feel cheap and overused. A stuffed Lightning doll or sword or some gear to look like her could be nice. Hell, maybe the barber shop could turn you into her for five minutes during a seasonal event (Cloud for guys). But don't have the actual Lightning be in the game walking around. My two cents.

Well, Cloud has been in Final Fantasy Tactics too, and there's Kingdom Hearts...

But the only character to make multiple appearances is Gilgamesh, and he's appeared in V, VIII, IX, and XII. (I don't count XI, because that's just a character named Gilgamesh, but not THE Gilgamesh).

Exactly, Gilgamesh is known as the single most recurring character in the series, even over Mog, and it's because he can travel between realms via the void. Giving Lightning that same capacity would just be annoying.

If they want to have an allusion, even a pretty strong one, I won't object too much. Given Cloud of Darkness, Omnislash, and a Warrior of Light helm, I think it's only fair that XIII be given the same treatment. That being said, I'll be damned if they try to make a canon inclusion of Lightning.

And then came legendary Square Enix producer, Yoshinori Kitase, who revealed that he had taken (without permission) the Miqo'te RSE and converted it into an in-game costume for Lightning Returns! Luckily, Yoshi-P gave his OK, and even promised we'd try to find a way to fit something from Lightning Returns in A Realm Reborn!
