Scholar as a new crafting class?

Can craft Tomes and Books for Summoner and Arcanist and other magical items and can make unique materia also and has the ability to enchant armor and weapons maybe..

Been discussing this with my friend along with other possibilities; like Scholar being a second job for Arcanist, or being a new DoM class altogether. These could also be true... but I just don't think so.

Scholar as the 9th crafting class seems to fit better and make more sense from a design standpoint.

Its harder to add crafting and gathering classes later down the road compared to battle classes. I don't think new crafting classes were ever added to FFXI in its entire lifespan except for synergy which could only add special effects to armour I believe.

There is only 2 crafting guilds in Gridania, 3 in Uldah and 3 in Limsa, this would make 3 crafting guilds in each city with Scholar.

They are already adding Arcanist class and Summoner as its job so adding Scholar as Arcanist's second job when no other class has a second just doesn't track. Aslo adding scholar as an entirely new DoM class means it would need a Job also, that's a lot of work, I just cant see it.

Anyway this is just my prediction, I could be wrong (or not ) I guess we will find out on the English live letter later today.

Im pretty sure Alchemists will be the ones to craft and repair books/tomes. What little information out there about scholars infers that the class is meant to balance out the healing or debuffing part of Mage classes

Yoshi already stated it is a job. Which means either a whole new class or branches from Arcanist. My money is on branching from Arcanist.

Edit: And aside from augmenting endgame gear Synergy can craft all kinds of gear, including teleportation earrings as well as food and BST pets.

Edit 2: And yes they accidentally let it slip during a live letter that Alchemy would be responsible for books if I recall.

I'm wondering if different DoH classes will be making different books depending on their level/type/etc; some that require alchemist, others that require leatherworker (leather-bound books), others still that require carpentry (paper and hardcovers) or even goldsmith (for elaborately jeweled tomes). Just speculation, but fun to think about!

there isn't any information about it, except people saying it's healer, because it could heal in other FF games.
but so could SMN, and there's no indication that it can, in ARR.
they want to add more casters, cause they are lacking in nr, so it doesn't make sense, to add SCH as crafter...
i dont think they will show SCH skills/gameplay, but at least they'll probably say what role it has.
we'll see what they say about it later
Would be really cool, if they showed some more classes/jobs, that they managed to keep hidden ^^

Theres to many crafting classes as it is E.G. blacksmith & armorer are the same thing in real life as armory is a form of blacksmithing.

Also weaver & leatherworks could also be merged

its not a class.. its a job... god...

it was confirmed... and scholar was shown on an artwork which showed CLEARLY a JOB WHEEL!

who is coming to the conclusion that a TRADITIONAL Final Fantasy JOB is turning into a class... or even into a crafting class?.... god...

scholar is most likely re-implementing skills that have been removed since 1.0. mage reformation. Since Arcanist is a hybrid between a summoner and a debuffing class, all three using books as a weapon.

Scholar most likely is going to come along with spells like scourge, bio, paralyze, banish and stuff.
He is the enfeebling job specialization of arcanist, while summoner is the job specialization regarding summoning pets.

yoshi specifically said it will be a job, he did not use profession or DOH.

I like the idea based on the fact that real-world scholars write books. Very clever. But yeah, it's basically confirmed that Scholar is a combat job with a specific party role. Still, maybe SE can wrap some good lore around Scholars to make it seem like not just another hack and slash aspect of the game.
