    I chose CON because it's spells open up all the options for when I start other classes. The basics like Protect, Shell, Stoneskin, Shock Spikes, and Cure, and the more advanced spells like Raise. It's really a solid start before hopping on other classes to learn more abilities, spells, and weapon skills.

    I choose conjurer because of all the buffing and healing spells to be completely honest. I LOVE main healing a party, so it only seemed right to take up the magic class with the most buffs to hand out. Not to mention, the elemental wands are SO DARN CUTE.

    I like soloing and CON seemed to have the right combo of curative & status removal spells, protection buffs and nukes that suited my taste. I like the elemental magic aspect of it, as it seems they're more connected to nature than THMs and they use wooden wands and staves (again the nature aspect). The CON guild blows THM guild out of orbit in terms of looks. It's in Gridania (which I actually like) which is ruled(?) by 2 horned kids who are Conjurers. Seemed closer to my old BLM from XI and I don't mind healing at all.

    I knew I definitely wanted to only play a mage class in XIV - don't ever plan on leveling a DoW class, no matter some of their useful skills and my handicap for not having any.

    I guess, to me, THM sounded a bit, dare I say, fake....they fiddle with death and graves and they live in a church-like building. The religious undertone was off-putting. Frankly, they sound more like a cult O_O whereas Conjurers seemed more along the druid path, which I could connect to. However, I couldn't imagine my CON now without the THM skills, so I really have to give them some credit.

    I honestly just wanted to get a utility job out if the way before I started meleer. In xi I never levelled a Mage because once I startedmeleeing I didn't want to start over on a completely new gear and ability-get.

    Not sure if I'm going to be a dedicated Mage or not.

    I actually started as PGL and then any time I was with a group... I missed being able to help when somebody was getting beat on. As much as I despised being WHM in ffxi, I missed helping. The thing that got me "hooked" was when I was roaming around in the Black Shroud and saw some guy with a sliver of health left running from some mob. I cured him to full and gave him some buffs and he turned around and defeated whatever had been chasing him.
    The ability to do that is why I continue to play it. ... though I do wish the range was better. I don't like going anywhere near whatever my friends are fighting to re-buff them XD
    It does add that danger-danger element to the fray, though. lol

    I've heard mixed reviews on this class being more of a BLM or a WHM. Just curious how the comparisons can vary so much. I just picked up this game yesterday and am trying to decide what class I want to play. I enjoyed BLM in FFXI, and was looking for something similar, but I can't find much about the class comparisons and what makes them unique. I wish I could get in and play to see which I might like more, but I had to wait until ClickandBuy opened and have been on hold with them for the last 45 minutes.

    Can anyone give a brief breakdown of the different magic classes, or point me to a site that can give me the main roles of each? Thanks.
