Good question, but I would wager it is considered a free period during which you can transfer- not a free transfer ticket stub.

I've asked this question before too. I've asked every question imaginable regarding server transfers, actually, lol. Happily, it turns out I don't have to go anywhere. But your question did cause me to recall this post.

We wanted to briefly discuss the current plans for selecting new worlds and world transfers for A Realm Reborn. Once the global data centers are set up for A Realm Reborn, we are planning the following for world transfers.

• In the event that you don't complete the transfer procedure, you will be transferred to a pre-determined world.
• In the event you complete the transfer procedure, you can select from a list of worlds you can move to and will be transferred to the world of your choice.

In order to eliminate any concerns about being transferred to a world you didn’t want to move to or being separated from your friends, we will be keeping the transfer procedure open for a long period of time as well as making various announcements to ensure that everyone is aware and can go where they like.

For Beta Test phase 3, fundamentally we are planning to allow anyone who possesses a Square Enix FINAL FANTASY XIV service account to participate in testing, so it will be possible to make contact with your friends from within the game.

We will be preparing thorough details regarding this whole process so that there is no confusion, and will be announcing them at a later date.

The rest of that post has turned out to be completely true, and I think the new details revealed on the Lodestone last week have left me with almost NO questions, which is amazing.

The only thing is, it sounds like the the transfer applications will be taken during phase 3, since the characters have already been placed on their ARR destination servers, and those requesting a transfer will be moved in time for Phase 4 (this is how I read the Lodestone announcements from last week.)

So now I'm not so sure how they can leave the transfer procedure open for a "long period of time". But I guess they could. If the Transfer Applications were left open, and if you applied "later" (after Phase 4 or after Launch), I'm just not sure at what point your character would get moved, since the big move is being made for Phase 4, certainly Early Access, or at least by Launch day. Maybe if you applied "later", your character would get moved during the next major planned maintenance?

Or they could just allow server transfers for all characters after 6 months or a year, at which point the economy on those servers should be established to the point where the legacy player's influence will be minimized.

I don't think they've said it officially at all, but I think this is pretty much the plan. Remember the world merge in 1.0? They'll probably just give us that same option. Not necessarly after 6 months (I'd estimate more like 2-4), but it won't be a huge deal in the long run.

Zenaku said it nicer, but it just seemed like one more thread about how SE could bend over backwards to offer something a very small percentage of players would be interested in. So I posted my initial gut feeling. I'm sorry if it sounded mean. :/

If it's only a small percentage why not just allow 1.0 characters to play on new servers? theres like 20 of them how much can a small percentage really mess up the market?

If you let a few you have to let everyone. then suddenly it's not a small percentage anymore. If we could all move to brand new servers quite a few people would do it. It wouldn't be fair to only let certain people do it, so it's either all or nothing. And because by all accounts, new players are tending to want to be on clean servers, it's going to be nothing.
