Well yes, but it's a false dichotomy to claim those are the only two options - no friends, or exploding servers. There can also be "enough servers/server capacity so that Legacy folks can play with their friends". Legacy folks are the goodwill ambassadors who, though word of mouth, can help convince people who are leery about giving XIV a second chance. It doesn't seem unreasonable to throw them a bone. :P

I mean, the developers may have already accounted for this and have some estimate of how many players are returning + how many people each of those might convince to give the game a try. I'd just feel more comfortable if there was some kind of confirmation that yes, this issue is on their radar. I've annoyed a lot of friends until they agreed to give ARR a second try, and I'm worried that if there are major problems, they'll say "it was bad then and it's bad now" and be annoyed at me for wasting their time and money. I'm nervous about that, and I'd like some reassurance that this is something the dev team has considered.

So if that's accurate, then anyone can be on Legacy servers, but only new characters can be on new servers. Which seems to square with what has been said. But I really would like it if we could get confirmation of that. :/
