There aren't any plans to designate a roleplay server for the upcoming World Merge. However, Yoshida did tell us "I also like roleplaying, so with the launch of version 2.0 we'll prepare a roleplay server."

"We'll prepare". Future tense. No conditionals. No "ifs" no "buts". Spin that if you can.

And to those saying "there's still time": There isn't much time. Applications for server transfers are gonna start mid-june, meaning that, unless they plan to offer another server transfer between phase 4 and launch (of which they said nothing so far, and if they are it might be beneficial to tell us), we'll need to know our destination of choice by then.

Likewise, if the plan has been scrapped for whatever reason, it'd be nice to know and why.

You have my support Abriael. By the way, thank you for your articles on 1.0's storyline. I plan to review them all before ARR's launch.

When I started playing FFXIV, I wanted to join an RP server. Unfortunately, this was before I began participating in the forums, and thus I didn't know where to go.

I am going to transfer to Balmung for now, but I would like to see an official RP server come to light before launch, as my personal experience makes me especially sympathetic to would-be roleplayers being cast adrift on a server where few appreciate creative fervor, as I was.

That an answer has not been provided, as that quote is a promise from 2012. Since a server list was provided yesterday, and no RP server was mentioned, and we're supposed to choose our destination server in mid june, we're asking for an update on the situation before we have to select a server.

And mind you, even if and when an answer will be provided, this thread will still be "relevant", as it'll serve the purpose to inform those that care about SE's intentions.

I'm sure that while the majority of 1.x player base are using Beta 3 to demo the changes between 1.x and 2.0, they will be more than capable of patiently awaiting which specific servers are officially designated as RP. Sounds simple enough to me.

In the world of media, to which Abriel belongs, all statements made by a person within a company are promises. the mere hint that they maybe might not fufill the promise is grounds for rage and unbridled anger. That's the Abriel way.

Or, we could all relax and wait for a response or an update from Se in the over 2 months before launch. The "promise" isn't broken until the game launches with no further information about this from SE.
