It is used as an incentive to have people sign up for longer periods as it reduces processing costs for billing. It also keeps people on the roles for a longer period of time reducing the subscriber drop off after the initial launch euphoria.

Ah I wasn't thinking in that way. Like the longer you sub it reduce the monthly payments @@ I took it literally 180 days for $12.99. OK I just wanted to question the usefulness of legacy. It's good to know it can save us $40 a year : )
