If Scholar does play in the same manner as it's XI counterpart, I don't think we'll actually be seeing light arts/dark arts in the same sense as XI but rather the arts of enhancing and enfeebling.
It would be interesting if the SCH abilities serve as a dual purpose where each one is effected by whether you have Light art or Dark art active. While light art is active the abilities you use become enhancements which support the party, but when you switch into dark arts, the abilities you used as enhancements now turn into enfeebles which you use on foes. Would definitely give SCH an interesting dynamic of how they present themselves switching back and forth between the two stances.
Made me think of Eternal Sonata wherein you automatically switched between Dark & Light abilities depending on whether you were positioned in shadow or light.
Heh, interestingly this is what I was thinking this morning! It was a thought that stemmed from how I imagined SMN working a few months back;If Scholar does play in the same manner as it's XI counterpart, I don't think we'll actually be seeing light arts/dark arts in the same sense as XI but rather the arts of enhancing and enfeebling.

Learn abilities like "Guard", "Attack", "Special", "Enhance" etc, and the ability would cause a different outcome depending on which Primal was summoned. For example, "Guard" on Titan would cause a Sentinel affect, whereas using it with Garuda active would be like Featherfoot.
"Enhance" - Titan = Stoneskin, Garuda = Regen, Ifrit = Attack+
I think it'd be a pretty good mechanic for SCH, like you said =b
Blind - Light Arts = Removes Blind, Dark Arts = Blinds enemy
Dia - LA = HoT, DA = DoT
Protectra (-ra; less potent that CNJ) - LA = slight DEF boost, DA = reduces DEF
It'd be a really fun mechanic and would probably become my main =$ Preferably the LA/DA recast would be relatively high (1 minute?) to make sure you're thinking ahead =)
I was extremely excited to play SCH in XI and unlocked it as soon as it was implemented. I found it to be a very complex job requiring a lot of skill and focus to play well. It was an extremely diverse job where you could literally main heal a party almost as well as a WHM, then in that same party - switch to do a BLM level magic burst with the skill chain. Watching players who could play it well was a pretty amazing sight. Personally, I don't want a job that complex again, and it may not be that way in ARR, who knows. It's potential is pretty amazing though. Please look forward to it!![]()
I am not sure if you mean this literally. In XI, SCH equipped and used the typical mage weapons like staves and wands. They didn't literally thwack with a book. ^^
I agree in that watching people play it well was (weirdly) exhilarating! When I finally decided to level it I found it very, very complex, and struggled to grasp it. I left it for a month or so (after I finished levelling BLM) and tried again. After that I grasped it pretty well and it ended up being my most fun job by far! I always preferred it in party situations (except in Abys farming; BLM <3)!I was extremely excited to play SCH in XI and unlocked it as soon as it was implemented. I don't know if it's selfish of me by wanting a job that requires a lot of patience and time to master the mechanics of... but either way, I would LOVE it to be SCH again =) I had so much fun with it.
And I loved being a show-off >.>
From what I understand is ACN is debuff and summon... Scholar is healer nuker they could have told us the job but not released what class it comes from. I'm betting oracle or sage is its class and there are alot of names for books they don't have to all be grimiores. THM and CNJ weapons are all a different weapon type but are similar. Yoshi also said that there will be a new healer type class and job ACN isn't going to heal.
