I'm surprised people haven't added this to the conversation~
EDIT: Also, isn't it strange the SMN doesn't have a book in his hand in the art?

Nice! I tried to list these items somewhere (so many thread about this...), but in general lots of people have noticed these when they say it's (almost) identical to FFXI Scholar AF.
There's a conflict between evidence that can be seen, and concepts based on v1's rules. I don't think either side doubts the others' points (looks like Scholar AF, book already reserved for Arcanist). It's kind of like one side says "believe your eyes!" and the other says "believe the v1 armoury system!".
I tend to believe my eyes, but also the consequences of putting other jobs' AF onto FF14 classes. I mean, what's next? To put Samurai AF in-game and assign it as Marauder's class-specific armor? Or Red Mage's iconic AF for Thaumaturge or Gladiator? That may not lock those classic Final Fantasy jobs from ever appearing in ARR, but they would have to abandon their iconic look from other FF games. This is what SE has already done to Scholar if indeed this is not Scholar.
