Hypothetically speaking,

For those of you who think: That is totally Scholar.....if you had to create artwork for a game's release, that showed off a new Job/Class...how would you do it and include it in your design in a way that made sense? How would you illustrate a 'scholarly' class so people could say 'Oh that must be the new class?'....you know, make it unique enough that it doesn't look like 'random mage in a Vanya Robe' for example.

There is probably a reason why the 'image in question' is placed polar opposite the Summoner.

And if it IS Scholar...don't we have a lot of questions/problems with that as well? What are it's base classes? If ARN is it's base class why is ARN the first 'double-job' class? Seems odd not to role out a 'double-class' off of one of the already existing classes first right?

And the 'we need another healer' thing: well, tbh sites like ffxivpads that actually tracked player progress found that the most common party role at level 50 DOW/DOM is CNJ/WHM. So there are plenty of 'Healers' in the game...especially when a party tends to only need 1. So will we need more healing roles one day? Sure. At release? Probably not. Either way, what makes you so sure that Scholar would be a healer if it was ever released? ARN is what most peoplethink it's base would be atm and ARN isn't a Healing role.

Also, ARN/SUM is already a new mage role. So while it is true we could use more, doesn't it seem like old standards like RDM would and THF would belong in the game before SCH? I mean, sure, we need more Mages, but we also haven't had a new Melee role in over 2 years either...I'm pretty sure there are plenty of people in the community jonesing for Dark Knights, Thiefs, etc.

But going back to game mechanics and practicality:

We know ARN is the base class that unlocks Summoner...but what is it's subclass? What is the class besides that subclass that it can also pull abilities from? Are those the same subclasses you think would be needed to unlock scholar? Because if so, that probably can't happen.

Not only that...but as many of those 'going YAY! SCH!' are stating they believe ARN, to be the main... and ARN is not a Elemental or Healing Mage....even if we are really getting SCH and even if it really does stem from ARN...it is not the Scholar you think it is. So what kind of mage/abilities would she have?

'FFXI's Scholar model (healer/dd hybrid)' is not unique enough or versatile enough for this game. Because to be fair, that's more or less what 'Old School' Conjurer was before the big patch changes of 1.19ish. This game needs it's jobs to be more 'role defined' not less. FFXI Scholar can basically be 'player made' in this game already with CNJ+skills from BLM and soon ARN.

You have to remember the actual game mechanics....for a Job, you keep the base classes abilities (So in most people's minds that would be ARN)+ skills from two other classes....even, even if they let you equip skills from CNJ/BLM...you wouldn't have enough skills to be an effective 'DD' mage (on par with BLM) or an effective 'Healer' Mage on par with 'WHM'. So what party would want to rep a dedicated healer with a healer that can't do much more healing than Barcher? ....or rep a high spike damage DD Mage with a Mage that will do less damage at the expense of dot/debuff spells? Or even, why would they want to take a Scholar over a Summoner?

So with all this said, yeah, maybe that is Scholar...but if it is, what class unlocks her? And do you really think we have that class in game yet? And if we don't...well then what base class would we need to actually get a Scholar.
