Wtf I love this bro
my thought is that they are giving classes; class specific armor. if you look around the outside there are a few others that could potentially be for classes like the top left PUG, especially after the blog post makes a reference to all the ARMOR in the picture being in game and not about classes/jobs
It's Quistis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This definitely makes sense to me! Yoshi has said something to the effect that they were considering multiple jobs per class. I just hope summoner is DD focused and Scholar is support. The only thing that speaks against arcanist is, that only jobs are displayed on that artwork.
ah well and the second.. that this is definatley scholar AF
scholar could be a rip off of arcanist since scholar is an enfeebling / debuffing job... which almost fits the arcanist role perfect. so there could be two paths to chose from.
arcanist is a pet class with debuff skills..
arcanist -> scholar (specialized into debuffs and enfeebling)
arcanist -> summoner (specialized in pets)
Lol, I've seen people, hopefully joking, talking about musketeer > scholar. I really highly doubt it... Someone make a gun book just in case!
I posted this in the lore forum, but I'll drop it here as well. After much philosophical contmplation inspired by the works of Aristotle, I have come to the conclusion that the Arcanist is the scholar of the XIV universe.
Around Limsa, various people will refer to those that work in Maelvan's Gate, the customs house and arcanist's guild of Limsa Lominsa, as scholars or "scholarly types".
Like many of the FF games, they have bent the class so that it is not pathetically weak and useless in most respects. In FFIII, it was a utility class that had very little destructive power in its own right. In FFIV The After Years, the called the "scholar" a secretary - she did a bit more than just be a scholar.
Likewise, the Arcanist is a scholar and then a bit more. It is the wisdom upon which the art of summoning is founded. It is a way of making every class capable of being played seriously through endgame, much like how the conjurer is a bit more than a healing class and gladiator is a bit more than a shield wall - that is where the jobs come in.
As for the artwork of 9 characters? They're simply showing off the new features of the combat system, 8 of which are jobs.
Since you're posting that here as well...
Pretty much this.
There's no denying that it looks like Scholar. It has the hat and everything. The thing is though, Arcanists are Scholars. Just look at this quest text from the quest "Seal Rock":
And some dialog as well!Shortly after the island first appeared, the Knights of the Barracuda and the scholars at Mealvaan's Gate [Arcanist's Guild] began to suppress the rumors as well as possible while limiting access to the area for investigation, an authority immediately challenged by pirate and Sahagin alike.

There's little we can do about that now. Though it would have been nice to join the scholars on this trip.
In the end, both sides are right. It's just Arcanist, but the Arcanists of FFXIV are Scholars.
2 jobs 1 class.
We'll take it into consideration.™
