Just to stir the coals here (because I'm trying so hard to not let my gut instinct influence me before this inevitably gets gatling'd at Yoshida's twitter in the next LIVE letter or at E3...), what does each side of this debate make of the fact that this is the same character making the same facial expression?

Well...when you zoom in like that it appears as though she's stealing the book from BLM...

So I'm willing to bet, she's stolen all their Elemental Spells :P Next, She'll start beating on the CNJ's until they give up their Ele spells....then finally, the purist punk will be a Mage with the full Ele Wheel.

I still agree however that the argument on both sides is strong for either ARC, or SCH.
It's giving me anxiety not knowing which is which. lmao

Take a read down them all...it is commonplace for Ferny to add fuel to the fire so to speak. I'm not saying he's trolling, but ....

Did you mean to post that in the "Ask Your Questions for Letter from the Producer LIVE, Part VII!" thread? or some other thread that even tangentially touches on those tepid off-topics? I'm just trying to help (... and/or curious how this relates to Scholar in ARR).

Nah, that's just my entire commentary on this Scholar issue, lol. Regardless of what the outcome is, SE clearly knew this was going to start the rumor mill a-churnin'. I'd like to remain neutral as far as "picking a side" goes on this particular issue, but I think it's coming through pretty clear that my instinct says no scholar. For all we know the theme isn't "Job Wheel" but "All the things Naoki Yoshida has added to this game since most people quit." My gut's usually good with these things, but I won't take it personally if it's wrong this time, lol.

Just like the death star "is no moon", that is no scholar. It's Arcanist. The base class for Summoner, which we've already seen art and concepts for. I mean come on people....who is really stupid enough to think that's a SCH when SE has already told us several times that Arcanist uses books as their weapon?

For the most part, people have either been posting the evidence in support of Scholar (eyes see Scholar AF), or posting reasoning from what we know about the v1 job system why it cannot be Scholar (brain says Book = Arcanist/Summoner). Regardless of what job/class SE says it is, the evidence won't have changed.

To me, overall, it seems more likely that SE would add and change stuff from v1 to make Scholar a possibility, rather than throwing the Scholar job under a bus and stripping it of its iconic AF, all but locking it out of FF14, and putting the Arcanist class in a circle of FFXIV jobs wearing iconic AF of a job not even in the game.

This isn't just some random concept art, either. It's the Japanese SE's cover art. It's also the back cover of the CE box, and on the cover of the JP version's art book. And of course on those marketing banners and posters seen in Fernehalwes's blog post.

P.S. LOL Anonymoose. I saw at least 2 versions of that deleted post. Been there. /comfort

I'm putting my money on No. Given "Evidence" like concept art and "Data Mining" claims - just like in version 1.0 - I'm still convinced they're more likely to release ACN/SMN and no other mage, in fact I'm sure MSK/COR is more likely than another mage, but I guess we'll see.

It wouldn't be practical if it was scholar. We're about to start Beta Phase 3, with no official mention of it from Yoshi-P or anyone else. They would have to balance it, debug it, test it, etc. For them to go this far in the game without a mention, I doubt its what everyone thinks.

Classes may not have specific armor ingame, but its like Anonymoose said: it's probably a promotional piece saying "hey guys look what's coming to launch!" Especially those that weren't around for the jobs release, which came later in 1.0.

So the girl has a mortarboard and some loafers....in only one piece of promotional art with no prior briefing from the dev team...yeah I call this one Arcanist. lol

i would like to point out, that the color schemes for the Arcanist model on the official page, and the color scheme of the Scholar indicate two completely different armor sets. why would they make concept art for two completely different sets of armor for arcanist's "Class" armor? makes zero sense. based off of Ferns Hintbomb, the blatant scholarly look of the charachter, and my immense desire to have scholar in this game, i have determined that it is infact a scholar.
