You can have 1 gear set for MRD and 1 gear set for WAR.
Only WAR would need the soul crystal, so you can place it directly into the WAR gear set.
It doesn't need to be placed on the armoury board if you're only using it in one gear set =)

Ah, I see where our understanding is diverging! I shouldn't think that the Armoury Board has a one column-per-job/class restriction.

I don't think so either =b
As far as I know Gear Sets exist as they did in P1/2, so we can equip whatever to each of those sets. The Armoury Board is only relevant when there's a piece of gear that you want to equip to more than one Gear Set.
You may see where our understandings clash, but I can't see it yet xD

It was stated in the 5th Live Letter that the Armoury Board replaces the Gear Sets altogether (which would only be in use in P1 & P2) in order to enable a single piece of equipment to be used "from a catalogue" (ie this Armoury Chest) in more than one set.

I don't think it replaces them completely... that'd be the worst thing ever. We already see that each category is limited to 25 pieces, so if you have AF for every job (including the new DoH/L AF) there will be no room for all of them + classes =/

It does repalce them, it said so in Live Letter V. I don't think it's bad though, in fact, I think it's very good.... So there's still gotta be a misunderstanding somewhere... lol
How have you got more than 25 pieces of armour in a given slot (eg 25 body pieces)? If you had a different piece of armour for every single job and every class, that would be 27 (unless SCH, then 29). There are going to be a comparatively tiny few who will be able to make use of that, let alone need to do that - this is just so you can change on the fly.
If you're a player that is going to have all the DoL and DoH AF (11), plus have over 14 different pieces of each armour to spec for you DoM/DoW classes, then kudos to you I guess, but even those players wouldn't need to be able to Gear-Swap between all of that on a whim!
You can still carry gear in your inventory and store it on your retainer (and for 99999999 at the MW *cough*), so it's not prohibitive as to how much you can carry.

But then, how do we select the class/job we want to use? We just repeatedly have to select each piece of gear one bit at a time every single time? There must be something else that they haven't revealed yet, because the only way it would work without Gear Sets is... I don't even know.It does repalce them, it said so in Live Letter V. Guess we'll just have to wait it out. Hopefully they'll make a video tutorial for it, like they plan on doing with materia.
