That would be my guess too.
It wouldn't be used on more than one class; it'd be there so you could have one equip set for the class and one for the job without having to go through an extra action to select it as such.
I know they wouldn't be for two classes, I was just ruling that out =b
And having it so you could have a gear set for the class and job is redundant, too, since only the job gear set would require it.
Only thing it would really be useful for is for multiple gear set for the exact same job, like I said with DD-WAR and Tank-WAR as an example. WHM and DD-WHM gear sets as another.
How else would you be able to tell the game you wanted to equip the job instead of the class? It's not redundant, it saves having to equip the soul crystal separately after changing class.
There are some occasions where you want to go MRD instead of WAR (for instance), so having the soul crystal slot as part of the Armoury Board would enable that.
You can have 1 gear set for MRD and 1 gear set for WAR.
Only WAR would need the soul crystal, so you can place it directly into the WAR gear set.
It doesn't need to be placed on the armoury board if you're only using it in one gear set =)
Ah, I see where our understanding is diverging! I shouldn't think that the Armoury Board has a one column-per-job/class restriction.
I don't think so either =b
As far as I know Gear Sets exist as they did in P1/2, so we can equip whatever to each of those sets. The Armoury Board is only relevant when there's a piece of gear that you want to equip to more than one Gear Set.
You may see where our understandings clash, but I can't see it yet xD

It was stated in the 5th Live Letter that the Armoury Board replaces the Gear Sets altogether (which would only be in use in P1 & P2) in order to enable a single piece of equipment to be used "from a catalogue" (ie this Armoury Chest) in more than one set.
