I just had a thought.

Have SE themselves ever actually drawn a class/job connection between summoner and arcanist, OR WAS THAT JUST US!?!?

Because if there is an option of having arcanist > scholar, plus xxxxx > summoner, that would be worth considering.

If anyone can debunk this idea on me with evidence, please blast away! >_<

I was going to say "The anniversary talk they did said that ACN will be able to summon Carbuncle, but SMN won't be able to and instead will have access to elemental primals" as 'evidence' of you being wrong...

But it could be that SMN won't be able to access Carbuncle because it belongs to a class which isn't its own >.>

The SMN artwork does show Ifrit being summoned from the pages of a Grimoire however.

They don't exactly say that they follow on from eachother, but that's only if you're being pedantic =b I'm pretty sure they're together!

Looked up the reveal thread for Arcanist and Summoner.

Sounds like they implied it saying that Summoner would have more powerful pet actions compared to Arcanist but nothing specifically stating it, an interview i read only mentions Arcanist and didn't mention Summoner at all. On the official site it doesn't mention the significance of the book to Summoner whatsoever. I spent some time googling around and couldn't find anything from Yoshi or SE themselves that specifically stated they were tied together so /shrugs. Maybe i missed something? It will be a surprise if Arcanist turns out to be unrelated to Summoner though.

My theory is that the addition of SCH was to make a second healer job (since for levelling up in groups of 4 there's going to be a huge lack of them), and from what we know about ACN it just wouldn't fit the bill =/

Maybe we'll see a Mystic that takes from and adds to what Thaumaturge lost? Scourge + Banish + Sacrifice with Scholar adding on top of that as well?.

^This. Pretty much what myself and the hauby we're discussing when the picture was released. And yeah- with WAR already have been confirmed @ NicoNico to fullfil a more 'tanky' role in ARR. We're looking at 2tanks, 1healer, and chalk full of DPS.

(And I hardly think ARN could fulfill a full support healing role. Anyone who was lucky enough to view the placeholder ability list before SE took them down would have a general idea of where that class gameplay will fall)

OFCOURSE anything and everything has been stated again and again "under development" and could change for release. So perhaps summoner/archaist just took a major turn we've yet to be informed about.

Even without referring to that particular list SE has said that ACN will mainly be a debuff/DoT class that gets more power depending on how many they've stacked onto it, so unless they change the its entire dynamic then I think we can be safe from a healer-SMN.

I thought they'd add another healer at launch before I saw this, I'd just assumed it would be RDM! I'm glad that it looks like SCH will be filling this (frankly needed) position.
