    Apparently Limsa has two DoM guilds...

    Based on a poll about jobs, they had narrowed the questions down to three possibilities:

    It would make perfect sense for this to evolve into a Gun Mage based on this information. But I would not discount a debuff rich role such as Red Mage also capable of filling the Job role.

    For those unfamiliar with the job, it has many properties of a Blue Mage, but with a ranged weapon.

    With the only collectable "carbon" (major gunpowder component) in FFXIV originating from bomb ash, bullets could naturally have magical properties right out the gate.


    It also makes me curious what other people think on the matter.

    I will continue to update the OP based on ideas evolving around this class concept.

    I agree. Arcanist and Musketeer would neatly round out 3 classes per city and the guild is already there. How the latter would evolve into a job is the question. Archer to Bard is the other ranged class, and they specialist in buffing the party, right? That would leave debuffing or enfeebling monsters available for the job specification, right?

    He says "Caster class" though so it doesn't necessarily lead to musketeer being a caster just based on it being a Ranged DD.
    Would be interesting, but I thought he was more interested in Red/Blue Mage or Dark Knight first? They could all fit that description too.

    Edit: The Musketeer > Gun (Blue) Mage seems feasible actually (forgot about gun-mage in x-2).
    Could also potentially lead to a Corsair/Gambler type job that debuffs through rolls.

    Depends on your definition of ranged DD. Red mage isnt exactly a core damage dealer in XI, unless you stack 2 hour abilities, heh. Plus, that version was usually portrayed with a sword and shield, implying close combat, "jack of all trades, master of none"

    As for XI Dark Knight, its skills usually of kept it up close in combat, in spite of its magic pool.

    One of the biggest reasons I brought this up is the guild & lore presence- It would be much simpler to implement, to fill this niche role.

    The only problem with that is though, how would the magic side be explained? A straight melee class going into a mage/ranged hybrid is a bit of a stretch lore-wise - I really can't see how it could work.

    Unless they used a silly idea like a 'magic bullet' idea enfused with aether or something.

    Bard is almost the same way. It seems like jobs have a lot of freedom lore-wise with Dragoons being from Ishgard, not Gridania area, and Archer being a pure melee to melee/mage hybrid of Bard. Could be that the Soul of the Gun Mage infuses your bullets with magic.

    Seems plausible to me, Yoshi P mentioned blue mage multiple times and i think it would clash less than corsair with their role as enforcers of the law in Limsa. If i'm remember the lore correctly, and assuming it hasn't been changed, been awhile.

    I do wonder though, that could limit their spell list quite alot. At best i could imagine that completing each blue mage quest would unlock a slot for an additional blue magic spell to be set. So there could still be a large array of learnable spells, you just couldn't equip them all.
