Remember or Forget?; Final Fantasy XIV Online 1.0.

As you all know, Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn is the reboot of Final Fantasy XIV Online 1.0.

With that being said, you can consider ARR as the starting point for this title and not 1.0. You can expect ARR to recap 1.0. in its own way.

It is really cool of them to allow 1.0. players to have their progress transfer over to the reboot title, but the people who will start ARR will never have the chance to experience 1.0. and all it had to offer.

I am a completion freak myself, I like to 100% games or I feel unsatisfied. There are some that mastered 1.0. content that will carry over to FFIXV:ARR and those that did not, but these content will never be available again even if it did carry over (1.0. achievements for example).

What I am getting at is, do you think 1.0. should be considered when talking about the whole FFXIV Online experience? I mean the fight with primals are going to be included in ARR but they are going to differ from 1.0. and you can consider the ARR version as the real version.

What do you think? Should we Remember or Forget FFXIV Online 1.0.? Give a reason if you can

The "Remember or Forget?; Final Fantasy XIV Online 1.0." is officially sponsored by The Blue & Yellow Club: The Guild of Nakama [Gungnir]

I'm an OCD completionist too! Missables drive me crazy. I'll avoid spoilers like the plague, but if there's something missable in a game I'll want to be told BEFORE I miss it.

I completed 1.0's story but I'll be playing on a new server. Everything in this game is new and I'd like it to feel that way. I'll probably continue my Legacy character's storyline for a bit to see all the exclusive content but I just don't feel comfortable starting a new game in a world where players are already going for relic weapons and have millions of Gil. I want it all to be fresh, I want it to last, I want to earn everything from scratch again and make the most of everything A Realm Reborn has to offer. 1.0 does count, yes, but I'm really looking forward to experiencing this as a whole new entity.

More and more, I find myself thinking of 1.0 and ARR as two separate games. That said, I'm sure there will be completionists who will see other players' 1.0 progress and go "Aw, man, I missed that." That's pretty much unavoidable, with one catch - those players won't be hanging out with the 1.0 people, at least at first. S|E has already said that they want to segregate the 1.0 characters at launch in order to prevent the economy of new servers from being imbalanced for some players. They want to ensure that new players won't be at a disadvantage or have to deal with inflated prices due to the overwhelming wealth of the legacy players.

Myself, I find myself wishing I'd come back to 1.0 sooner than I did, because I found myself wanting to complete more of 1.0's content before the final save. Nostalgic worst to first tale, and all that.

To me, ARR is Final Fantasy XIV-2. It's going to be a completely different game, just with the same protagonist. And yeah, I do the completionist thing too... I remember the final save day as being a completely desperate scramble to get those last classes to 36 and getting the chronicler's crown (mainly to see all of the last few cutscenes!) after which I slept for 12 hours as soon as the final save maintenance began.

GLD is not GLA! But apparently, it IS GSM!

@Andreas Lycaeus Good idea, I might make a new char just to see the little difference in cut scenes in the beginning, plus you get all those character slots, might as well do something with them lol

I'm absolutely torn between starting afresh on a new server with my half a dozen or so RL friends who will be new to FFXIV and playing the new end-game content straight away with my old character and LS.

There seem to be such strong points to both, that I'll just have to play twice as much and shun my job and my family...

Even 1.0 had some achievements that were missable if you didn't play from the beginning. They got rid of a lot of things like physical levels, shield level, guild tokens and guild skills, etc.

The people who got these achievements will still have them listed, but if you missed it, then you won't be able to get it.

They even released a list of all the achievements you could get in 1.0 that are unobtainable in ARR.

The idea of end-game content from day one does not appeal to me at all. I want to work towards it, experience the story and all the new locations from the very beginning and earn the new content. This game is hopefully going to be around for years to come, why skip to all the good stuff straight away and spoil the journey? That being said, I really do wish there would be a New Game+ option for new servers which would enable you to port over your character without items/Gil/levels so that you could experience the exclusive storyline without having to join a Legacy server.

Everyone has their own views on whether or not they will be starting fresh or continuing the story of their character. As for me, I will be continuing the story of my character. With a new skin, yes. But same person, nonetheless.

For me, an mmo is more about story than simply leveling up. And my character's story is EPIC. Having beaten the crap out of Darnus and risked everything to save Eorzea, only to wind up teleported into limbo right after staring fiery death in the face. Lou teleported my character for a reason. They are still going to be needed in the future... badly. I can't let my character's story just end like that. Can't let Eorzea down. And certainly can't let Lou's sacrifice be in vain. So I'll be there, continuing to fight the good fight like no one else can.

Also, my character is a fabled hero. It will be nice to return after five years and see everyone's reaction to me being alive (especially my commander in the Maelstrom. She's probably gonna flip! Or she'll just ask me where in the hells have I been the last five years. Either one). In 2.0, my character has established itself as a genuine badass. They'll be ready to face the new challenges that await, including the Garleans, who are probably telling stories about my infamous exploits and will likely be chomping at the bit to take me down when they hear of my re-emergence. And it will be novel to see how my character eases itself into the new reborn world.

And there are plenty of new things yet for my character to do. A new magic class to try (not to mention the other classes my character hasn't leveled up yet), new dungeons to explore, new monsters to defeat, a new storyline, new goals, new places to go... yeah, I think there will be plenty enough "new" to keep my character occupied. The great Skye Windbinder has yet more to accomplish, likely more than they will ever have time to. My character's story is long, established, and epic. And I like it like that.

I'm with SkyeWindbinder. I want to continue my characters story. Besides, I don't have it in me to start over and complete everything again.
