because FFXI is FF....esque, due tot he fact it is FF. The franchize is how it is because they do their own thing and stay on their own streamline.I was making a point. People have threads asking for things from FFXI like it's the only game with any substance. And that's not true. If I have to remove the word TERA from the title just so people can listen to my points and give them a fair hearing, then that's a sad indictment on the state of the final fantasy community, no?
Um, I haven't even played Tera, and I doubt any of us have, I think the Only thing I would say is even more character customization since Tera's character creation is very..customizable.

Because in a lot of ways TERA started from scratch into a different game entirely. I'd want FFXIV to borrow from FFXI so that Square Enix can use what they learned personally from experience for what worked and what didn't.I think it's right that FFXIV should have its own identity, but why must it be borrowed from FFXI and nowhere else? FFXI had so many faults, and many insist on bringing those with them to FFXIV. I think it's fair to look to other games which are coming out rather than ones which have been released long ago.
TERA is doing some things right and I think the game itself makes a fair case for bringing those over with the amount of popularity it is receiving. You can argue that it will ruin the integrity/identity of FFXIV but, in reality, wouldn't FFXI ruin it just as much.
FFXI is similar to FFXIV, but that isn't exactly reason to make them even more similar.
There is so much xenophobia around here it's hilarious.
TERA has mounts, flying mounts, action-based combat system, large amount of varied zones, a much greater amount of character creator options, grinding that doesn't feel like grinding and doesn't take months to hit the level cap, fun PvP from the get-go, raids, etc. It is all around in my opinion a much better game, and if FFXIV recovers and wants to compete when it relaunches then I don't want it to borrow from TERA.
Instead I want it to find its own things that work really well within the Final Fantasy series or by trying new things. Such things include player housing which I don't know if TERA has, chocobos airships and moogles which FFXIV lacks and are a staple for the FF series, and tweaks rather than an overhaul to the combat system. I feel like there's nothing to borrow from TERA that wouldn't just be taking from what makes TERA unique and we'd end up with a "TERA clone" that still doesn't have its own identity.
No, if you stopped trolling and added something useful to the conversation we wouldn't slam everything you mention. There's no reason for you to start a thread comparing games that have nothing to do with Square-Enix with FFXIV. If we wanted to play WoW clones like Rift and TERA, we would be playing them. We do NOT want SE to copy Blizzard or "KoreanMMOgrindfestproducer10,325".
So it's safe to assume you know nothing about TERA whatsoever if you throw it into the same category as RIFT and WoW. Therefore you, sir, are the anti-discussion and a troll. No, if you stopped trolling and added something useful to the conversation we wouldn't slam everything you mention. TERA introduces MANY, MANY things that are completely game-changing for the MMO genre -- no matter if you like the game itself or not -- so if you'd like to act as if you have an opinion on the matter it helps to know about what you're arguing first.
While I do see your point, I just think that if you bring the idea up without referring to other MMO you would get a better respond than... No, No No No, Hell No!, etc.
well, on your topic, i do agree with long story questlines with voiced cutscenes and group-oriented quests but jump and swim? that doesn't sound so Final Fantasy to me.
Honestly the only prominent feature I've seen in TERA so far is the skin shown :P
The political stuff sounds interesting at first sight, but it's been implemented a lot in MUDs a long time ago, with much smaller/manageable communities, and also in RF online.
In every single case I experienced it, it turned into a massive source of Drama from which I would gladly steer clear.
Hmmm, I think it's true that the basis of the games are different. TERA isn't about grind for reward, whereas FFXIV is. However, despite that difference, FFXIV can still take over some of the fundamental concepts behind TERA when implementing new ideas.
One of the things talked about with FFXIV is the combat system. Yoshi intends to alter that and it might be a good time to look at what TERA did. TERA's philosophy was to keep the players focussed on the center of the screen, rather than at health bars, stamina bars, etc., all the things which one usually looks at when fighting rather than the actual fight. So it was in that way that they created a more frenetic type battle. I don't want FFXIV to lose its character, but I just hope they step away from the menu-esque micromanaging type system.
I know they won't, but it was simply a hope of mine. And im sure nobody else wants it so Ill leave it at that.
Anyway, another thing SE has mentioned introducing are player/public companies. TERA has a political system and I think giving players in FFXIV something akin to this might be an interesting addition and an ultimate goal for the biggest and most organised companies.
Earlier I talked about fundamental concepts. The battle system in TERA is based around a more isntinctive as opposed to micromanaging/mathematical system. THe political system seeks to give players some freedom/power. And those are concepts which FFXIV can bring over without harming their sacred identity.
I do think that the community is a bit xenophobic to spam this thread with "OMG NO" instead of just not participating in the discussion if they don't like it. I mean that's what this thread is for one way or another: discussion. While I do see your point, I just think that if you bring the idea up without referring to other MMO you would get a better respond than... No, No No No, Hell No!, etc.

I think it's probably too late in the development to add voiced cutscenes, as that's something that SW:TOR alone poured 300 billion dollars into, but I would be for it. It was disappointing to see that FFXIV didn't even provide some middle-ground between FFXI and other MMOs in regards to that and that cutscenes were simple text-text-text-text again.
Right, which is why TERA is in such horrible shape from hackers and RMT that they're not even sure it'll have enough subscriptions on release to sustain the game. Yes that sounds EXACTLY like what I want FFXIV to become. I've read every single thing about TERA, watched every video, seen every SS. Heard everything from complaints about the graphics changes to the lawsuits from other Korean Grind-fest producers.
That sounds so game-changing and innovative, a Korean grind fest full of hackers, OMG BRAND NEW!
