    [dev1035] Character creation/customization? Yes please.

    Greetings community team.

I just want to share my disappointment about the character creation options.
Even if it’s a little better than FFXI, it is still insufficient compared to others mmorpgs released nowadays...
One of the worst thing i can’t stand in a mmorpg is seeing my clone every 2 minutes when running in a city, the avatar creation should be the most advanced possible to avoid this problem.
Here are a few suggestions to improve the character creation feature.

-Option to modify body anatomy, especially with the face, add more options on eyes/eyebrow/chin/jaw/jigs/lips ect...with those we should have the possibilty to create an unique character.

-A lot more hairstyle, i’ve saw some hairstyle from FFXI but then why some are missing?
Others exclusive hairstyle are welcome of course.

-Color panel should not be imposed, a complete color swatche should be implanted for some features. I understand there must be a visual difference between wildwood/duskwight, but still...i’m disapointed i can’t have a wildwood elezen with red eye.

-More advanced option on character voice tone.

-more options with characteristics, some are barely visible...
At the moment the ffxiv character creation features are close to the one we found on free mmorpg.

-An option to modifiy some character's features (hair, skin color, eyes color) later in the game if players wish to.

I’m well aware there is at the moment tons of others vital adjustment to be done before reviewing the character creation, but still i think in a game where we’ll play hours/months/years with our avatar, having an unique character (at least close to unique) is important.

A new dev tag should be created for character customization.

    Thanks for reading.

    Regards.

PS: Sorry to double post with those who have already talked about this matter in general discussion, but in my opinion if there is a tag for the jump feature...we need one for character customization in gameplay section.

Hmm I'm not sure I agree with you there. Certainly, the character customization pales in comparison to, say, City of Villains or Champions Online, but other than those it's a great improvement over most other MMOs I've played. Combined with the sheer quality of the character models, my heart's not breaking that I don't have fine control over the RGB shade of my eye color. After all, as in real life your eyes can only be a few colors depending on your genetic makeup.

Not to imply more selection wouldn't be nice, and I hope to see more hair styles and colors (possibly in an expansion) but to act as if the character creation is completely lackluster and barebones is a bit unfair. Besides, if having the color selection limited to a preset range of colors rather than a complete swatch means the game will run better because it doesn't need to load complex color data for every character, I'm all for it. This game is very mean to people's machines as it is, it doesn't need to strain them any more.

I agree, there definitely should be more hairstyles/colors. Right now i have a highlander and could only choose 4 different hairstyles none of which i really liked but i went with the one that looked best on my char. I hope they will add more styles later on, and have it so you can change hairstyles at anytime like they had once said b4.

I know I posted this in this thread as well, but you probably should have done some more research before sticking on a dev tag you made up.

It would have to be [dev1038], as 1035 was for targeting, 1036 for the addition of exp/sp/loot to sidequest mobs, and 1037 for enhanced battle effects. But even then, making up your own dev tags is never a good idea.

That being said, I completely agree with everything you said! I just hope the dev team is able to find this since it uses the wrong tag, haha.

I see...that explain why they were missing in the "In Development" tag list, i should have searched more...anyway thanks Chrees.
The idea of a new tag for this matter was just a suggestion, i've never had the idea to impose one.
My apologies to the dev team for the inconvenience.

I don't really think it's that big of a deal. What I'd do is tag this thread using the "Tags for this thread" down below. Add some keywords describing what this thread is about. Plenty of other threads that didn't even have dev tags have been spotted by the reps and have gotten responses. Don't let that discourage you!

Aye, it'd be nice to see something a la Aion's character creation/customization system with XIV's graphics.

If Eve Online can introduce a robust Avatar builder after what 7 year of operation, then a new game like ff XIV should have launched with one just a good.

While it is lower on the list of things to do, the FF XI style of Avatar creation is just laziness on the part of the original Dev team, I truly hope this is fixed; I want my Character to be as unique as my class and job.

I don't know about the ability to control the stuff like chin and cheeks and whatnot like that(not if it's gonna be like oblivion level control cause people will just make the most hideous things you can imagine).

That said there should be a metric buttload of hair styles and extra options. They have tattoos in the game yet there are only a few and where you can place them is EXTREMELY limited. There should be a near uncountable number of tattoos and you should be able to place them anywhere. Scars should be similar as should birth marks. The bottom line is that even with the beautiful character models there was no excuse to have the character creation system be FFXI.2. There should have been ALOT more not just abit more.
