Darn. I was hoping my question regarding the pedigree of the 12 would be answered in the live letter but I understand it didn't get as many likes as other things. Maybe the gamer escape people will ask it in their interview. Or the beta forums...

The religion on which Ishgard is structured goes all the way back to when the Fury herself, Halone, supposedly waged war against dragonkind. We know the dragons believe themselves ruled by a God, and we know the Allag exiled this god to the skies.

Might one assume that the dragons were probably pretty pissed off about this? Perhaps pissed off enough to wage a war against the Allag? And IF the Twelve were Allag and IF this war took place, might not Halone have been among those fighting it?

Makes a creepy sort of sense, doesn't it.

    Hm.
This is actually creepily plausible... what if Halone turned out to be the "heroine" amoung the Allag that won the war for her people? Moose could be onto something here... what if that is how she really did indeed get her nickname "the Fury"? Things really seem to get interesting once we factor in this element.

IF indeed we think of Halone as the "unacknowledged" daughter of the "Empress" of the Allagan people (illegitimate daughter of Rhalgr and Nyemia?)... then we have a strong willed skilled warrior keen to prove herself worthy and win the respect of her parents, relatives and empire. I also wonder how Xandes (first Emperor of the Allagans?) fits into this picture and I hope we learn a lot more about him in ARR.

But back to Halone... perhaps she becomes exceptional in the battle against Bahamut and is instrumental in helping the other top "warriors and mages" of the Allagans trap him, which is yet another debate altogether (I still agree to the speculation that it was because he was draining too much Aether from the planet).

Anyway, this leads to them winning the war and sealing him away. But then, like Moose suggested, the rest of the dragon beast tribes wage war on them and perhaps this is where the beef between Halone and Nophica evolve... Halone wanted them hunted to extinction while Nophica felt that they only needed to be slapped on the wrist. And in time, this dispute tricked down to be played out by their respected "people".

After all, in the "Into The Dark" quests, Serpent Lieutenant Fulke states:
Ishgard and our own Gridania share a history of animosity. We were once at war, long ago, each nation seeking the annihilation of the other. Yet now we must join forces against a common enemy, lest we share the fate of Ala Mhigo.
Now I really feel psyched for the main scenario missions... and as was was discussed last year, I agree that many of our answers may lie in Ishgard. Only time will tell; and I guess in Ferne we still trust.

I was kinda hoping there would be an answer to this somewhere in phase 3 but I guess not. Maybe this is one of those lore holes that will never truly be known?
