In the trailer we see several figures bathed in blue light flying around the crystal...
Roegadyn in austere attire holding a great axe...
Althyk? That you?
WE HAVE QUESTIONS.
COME DOWN HERE THIS INSTANT.
<Anonymoose paces the room rambling lore facts>
<eyes widen>
When Louisoix set off the teleport at the end of End of an Era, we saw a similar magick glyph, but with Althyk's hourglass inside of it. That, my friends, may very well be the Midlander trapped in time limbo... meeting the Twelve... the guardians of Hydaelyn.
Boom.

the Midlander had red hair.
=> Character redesign?

No no no. You see, what's happened is that upon being placed in the rift by Lou, our bodies were reduced to an aetheritic state, just like when you use Teleport or Return. But rather than pop out instantly we hang around for five years. That's too long for our minds to hold on to a fixed visualization of our true selves, and so our subconciousnesses recreated our physical form in our ideal image of ourselves.
Our dear midlander always wanted to see himself ideally with red hair. So his subconscious gave it to him from five years in the rift.

Awww darn it... I'm always behind on keeping up with the great stuff. Had a very busy week so far and whenever I was free, I was too engrossed in watching videos from E3. Wicked new trailer, innit?
Yes, I completely agree with many of you that another facet of examining the concept of the Twelve will be to consider they may have been Allagans who "elevated to godhood"... which I mentioned somewhere above. But then what always bothered me was... who in turn made them and/or gave the Allagans their incredible knowledge?
Also, I think Moose has a point... did you guys also notice that at the end of the trailer there seemed to be (twelve?) smaller crystals orbiting around the larger "mother crystal"? I may have miscounted our perhaps I subconsciously wanted there to be twelve... but that's a thought.
"After ten years, finally headed to Sharlayan... absolutely stoked"

well you know, 5 years is a long time in fashion. Umbral is the new Astral.

Another random thought that may or not be relevant.
The religion on which Ishgard is structured goes all the way back to when the Fury herself, Halone, supposedly waged war against dragonkind. We know the dragons believe themselves ruled by a God, and we know the Allag exiled this god to the skies.
Might one assume that the dragons were probably pretty pissed off about this? Perhaps pissed off enough to wage a war against the Allag? And IF the Twelve were Allag and IF this war took place, might not Halone have been among those fighting it?
Makes a creepy sort of sense, doesn't it.
Hm.
