    Relationships of the Twelve

I've never really seen a "family tree" of the relationships among the Twelve that was both accurate and easy to follow, so I figured I'd (try to) make one, myself. Here's Version 1.0.0, though I've saved it in an easily-altered format for all improvements and corrections.

    FULL VERSION

This leaves one thing that I should ask the X|V community, and one thing that I should ask the X|V development team:

    Of the Community:
Is it clear, and do you see any obvious mistakes? How should it be changed, or how could it be improved? Do you like it?

    Of the Development Team:
I realize that the Twelve may not be any of the things we believe them to be, so I ask this purely of their mythological representations in the eyes of people that follow this religious system: Is the information provided in their three-sentence biographies exhaustive? Is there more information about individuals or their relationships that would make this more accurate?
    Some Possible Example Questions:
    • Is Nymeia the mother of Althyk's children? (A little Zeus/Hera thing going on, maybe?)
    • Which parent(s) are Llymlaen and Nophica related through? Half-sisters? Whole sisters?
    • Do missing half or entire parentages mean that they were likely born to mortals and/or became gods on their own?
    • Do the generations that I've implied actually exist in this three-tiered system?
    • They're all ancient and timeless, I assume, so would we think of many of them as "the same age" visually, or do they resemble their discrepant ages statically across all time?

I like it, but interestingly, some of the symbolism was never truly apparent to me until now. Let's think of these deities as concepts rather than people for a moment.

In partnership with Fate, Space-Time gave presence to the passage of the heavens, thus the Sun and Moon were borne into existence.

By relying on the Moon, Travel knows bliss and so may coexist with Trade.

By the Sun's power, the Land knew sustenance and flourished, although it's wellbeing would always be in conflict with those who bore it Fury. This Fury will Travel to where it must needs be found.

As the Land came to be, so did Navigation, which was borne into existance by Wisdom. Wisdom also taught how to Build.

Both the skill to Build and the Fury to compete exist only by virtue of Destruction, which is guided by Fate.

    Thoughts?
I suspect we're dealing with something more complex than personalities. The resemblance to the Greek Pantheon is intriguing.

Gahoo and I were musing on that very symbolism after seeing them laid out that way. I figure that means the image is at least good enough for its purpose, lol. I rather liked how Nophica and Halone were bitter rivals, which to me represents how, in the ancient world, warfare ebb and flow was heavily tied into farming due to a nation's soldiers and farmers often being the same people, which also ties into Oschon (Wanderers and Vagrants) being a close companion of War, creator of all manners of both in veterans and survivors (beggars, mercenaries, deserters, etc.), and thus a heavy tie-in to life and death (Nald'thal).

As far as the connection to the Greeks goes, that's Eorzea for you.

When all else fails, look to Greek influence. Which reminds me - I came across a Wikipedia list that hadn't come up in my searches before that made me have a few, "AHA!" moments as far as analysis goes. Unlike pages like, The Twelve Olympians, or List of Greek Deities, this one has everything in one place - rather useful for trying to find connections. (List of Greek Mythological Figures)

I seem to recall that SE had an actual Twelve relationship 'flow chart' on the original FFXIV 1.0 website around the time of launch, but that disappeared years ago and I've never seen it listed anywhere since. The only other thing similar to that is this basic one on the FF Wiki:

I don't think that one is actually official though, but fan made. It does seem however to follow closely the style of the 'original' one that I mentioned previously, what I can remember of it that is.

It's been a bit, so I don't remember everything about the 12. But it makes more sense that way as it strikes a 6/6 balance male:female ratio.

Yeah, this one was a copy-paste error, lol. Nice catch!

Yes, it's a balance - each element has a male and a female representative, except for the poles of the elemental wheel (lightning and ice) which have two males and two females, respectively. Thanks for catching that - updating uploads.

Thanks for digging this one up! I'm amazed how similar it is to the first draft of mine despite not having the need to organize it in such a way that the four non-family arrows don't overlap or make an image where the key / title can't fit. At least it's some validation!

I don't really want to separate Nald'thal into Nald and Thal, however. I find him to be like the Gemini - actually two, but when you split them up, not the concept in question.

Yuss! A pleasure to look at.

I might giggle a bit inside when playing ARR and running into quests that give new tidbits of information about The Twelve as I imagine you having to juggle this pic around to ensure no lines overlap.

If Llymlaen is daughet of Thaliak and Nophica daughter of Azeyma... and Llymlaen and Nophica are sister... this means there is a relationship between Thaliak and Azeyma true?

If so, u have to change the graphic anony <3

I hate Family Tree... always too complicated for me >.<
