Plausibility of an FFXIV 1.23 Offline Edition

I've been thinking about this. Ok, I'm going to park the financial and staff cost element of this discussion because it's not something I can comment on. I'll leave that open for other, better informed folk to discuss if they choose.

However, technically, could an offline single-player version be done, and would it make a fitting tribute to FFXIV 1.23? I think yes, with a couple of simple changes.

Firstly, you must be able to control and level multiple characters. I think a nice feature would be for you to have unlimited scope for the number of characters you want to create; you could leave the ones you didn't want to use in the inn. You could control up to a full alliance-worth at the same time, switching between direct control at a keystroke (though your active party members would have to be in the same zone).

Sounds hectic! So secondly, you'd need a pause function wherein you could 'ready' actions of your currently controlled characters like other offline RPGs. I only suggest this over the traditional FF ATB because it would require a lot less resource to implement.

With those couple of functions, I think the game could stand alone as an enjoyable aside to ARR. I'd certainly take the time to attempt the battles I was never able to originally and examine the lore that I missed.

Anyone else think it's not beyond the realms of plausibility? If such a thing were to be released, how much would you pay for it?

It would require rewriting much of the game code (both server and client side), a lot of balancing (player vs mob etc), the need to incorporate NPCs to fill up your party list..these are just -some- of the things off the top of my head they would need to do to adapt it to a console type of system.

Basically..it'd be faster for them to use the assets they already had (3d models, environments, storyline) and create it again from the ground up and draw out the storyline more (ie give it a bit more linearity).

It's pretty much what they did with ARR, except the output is an MMO. They'd have to start from ground up again for an offline version of 1.0.

wishful thinking, for sure. I would certainly love something like this :/

If you could make and control multiple characters, ie a party/alliance's-worth it would remove any requirement for NPC AIs and mob-balancing; it could all be left in its original form.

You would be better appealing for them to release 1.23 version for private servers.

The idea being to provide a product that SE can make money with. You know, something private servers do not care for?

Unless they charged a monthly fee for the use of the server info or a once off fee.

Whilst the least effort would be required to put this into action, it would certainly lead to a different experience to what I was suggesting. I get the feeling that I'd still be standing round in Ul'dah shouting for people to fight Garuda with, but this time, there would be even less people interested than there were before the servers closed.

At least if you could control a full party of PCs, you could attempt the group content and even be able to experiment with tactics you'd not normally be able to use in a pick-up group.

I wouldn't pay to play the 1.23 MMO with ARR running concurrently, even if it were only a one-off fee. I don't have the time for the social investment in two MMOs to make the multiplayer content accessible in both. However I would pay £20 for a modified single-player version of it (especially if it got me a limited ARR minion lol).

    I see your point.

wouldnt have to rewrite anything, a few scripts for AI and they tone down the higher level mobs and let you install the server on you computer then thats it.
but once the server is out for DL pirate server will pop up and no way SE will let that happen so no way we will see 1.23 for solo play.
