Marriage - Will we be able to change our family names?

I realize the marriage system is not scheduled to make it in for ARR launch, however, I would love if a community rep could get an answer.

Will we have the option to change our character's last name(s) when we get married?


It would be nice to know before retail launch, so that those of us planning to get married in the future know whether or not we need to have our last names set ahead of time.

Alternatively/additionally: Will there be any paid name change service in the near future? Any estimates where that might lay on the roadmap relative to marriages? Thanks!

I don't see it happening; it's never happened in 11 and it'd be really difficult like Kagato said ; ;. What happens if the name you or your partner changes to will turn into someone else's name? ex:

Maiden name- Deku sprout
Married Name: Deku Tree - But there's already a Deku Tree on your server D: what happens then?

If you are planning to marry your significant other ingame, I would plan your surnames now before release so you can set them when you (re)create your character

It'd be more work than needed.

If Cloud Stryfe marries Cloud Strife, then you'd have two Cloud Strifes on the same server. And I don't think people would wanna run around with three names if the spouse's surname is tacked on to avoid two characters with the same name.

I didn't know anything had been stated either way. Do we know when to expect it?
