Well, while I think you have a valid point, I'd like to point out one thing myself. The animations are being developed in Japan, likely with the Japanese audio in mind. That means that technically, there is a quantifiably higher quality to the Japanese dubs as opposed to the other languages. That being said, I happen to like the cadance of the Japanese language, but if the English is better, I will listen to them, for simplicity sake.

I'm not disputing "authenticity" when it comes to anime, because yes, those are produced with a Japanese audience in mind. But FFXIV is not an anime, nor is it just another game that's being "brought over" to the States. It's actually a simultaneous global release, with its specific regions as its target audience.

While this is truth, it's not exactly the truth. Animations will be made just for 1 language, prolly japanese. Jp tend to use many words when they speak so when u try to dub jp animations, english dub ends up sounding slow and unnatural.

Beats the Japanese voice by a MILE, imo.
Oh Skye...<3 We shall make happy puddles of bliss when we hear Thanny voiced, won't we? T.T /high5

I'm not arguing anime here, nor the production of it. I'm quite aware of the differences that need to be made with script changes to match flapping mouths and whatnot, which can result in quirky and clunky dubs. Once upon a time, I too watched anime, and had about equal dub and sub. Some are hit, some are miss, I will give you that, BUT..the point I am trying to make is that people treat the Japanese and their language as if they're some omnipotent existence on this Earth and that anything in Japanese will always be vastly superior (not just anime, as evidenced by this very thread), even when production elements and high quality dub voice actors are streamlined; because to these people, their minds are ALREADY made up that anything non-Japanese will suck. Then they will watch or listen to said non-Japanese thing and find reasons to validate their worshiping of the Japanese language and its superiority. Lol

Meh, welcome to nerd culture. Hell, welcome to human nature, frankly.

Paragone debates are annoying, but I guess people that need to cling to something with airs of superiority will do it regardless. Soccer is better than American Football, Coke is better than Pepsi, painting is better than sculpture, pie is better than cake.

Thing is, most mainstream anime/games are either: Japanese or English. If you're playing on a Nintendo console or Sony console, chances are it's one of the two for most games. So it's not that Japanese is held "above all", it's the simple fact most gaming and anime media that's mainstream is Japanese.

If it was Chinese or Korean you'd be pissy about people holding those languages over English or French.

To each their own, but I'd prefer to hear the voice overs in my native language. I've never been big into anime anyway, but I couldn't bring myself to listen to it subbed because a noticeable amount of male characters were voiced by females and it just didn't sound right to me.
