I am starting to see a BAD trend with the new dev team here. Making things bigger is not the answer. Quick fixes like this aren't helping the game. In my opinion, they are hurting it. I do thank you for the quests, but again another quick fix that didn't really help in the long run, again my opinion. Please SE take your time and make meaningful fixes that are going to really help the game. I can wait, we all have waited this long. Because we are still hear we have faith and are willing to wait. Just let us know what you are doing. I am more then happy hearing that you will be adding side quest and to get it right it will take a few months to implement. Then maybe a few weeks later stating something like, side questing addition is going well. Development team is on track with them. I don't need simple fixes every month if isn't changing the game on the whole. This is easy for me to say because I do not know the direction of the game so it might be necessary to make these small changes and get feedback first before devoting major time and investments into it. If that is it, its fine just say so. If these changes were added to see our reaction to it, then say so. As it feels, to me, right now these are just quick fixes SE is throwing out to pacify the player and not really help the game.

Am I the minority here? What say you???

I wholeheartedly agree with PM1337. Please do not add any more quick fixes to the game, I rather see nothing done for now and real changes in the future. This idea is almost as bad as the quests, which are all "defeat 8 monsters and return to town".

Please take the time to really help this game... me and my friends have played FFXI from launch without ever complaining, and now none of us want to stick around FFXIV until it truly changes.

I know you're upset, but hear me out here, alright?. Making things bigger to you and me may seem trivial, but if you're like me (assuming you started a while ago) you ran out, and you saw some marmots, and thought "eh, first area, of course everything is going to be puny and weak" but then, nothing really got.. "Bigger" and everything that was "Big" I had no chance of taking on at the time. Now, for a new player, even just starting out they can see the Coblyns, for example, and think "Oh, those are really big! I'm not sure if I want to go after them right now" but when they do, they might get a nice since of accomplishment their first time defeating an enemy. moreso than maybe we felt when they where "puny"

That said, it IS fixing the basic groundwork of the game, some players take these games really slow, and love every little detail. Others like to rush, if you've been paying attention however, the devteam IS working on ways to fix everything we find wrong, it just takes some serious time to do so.

(Sorry for run on sentences/possibly bad grammar, haven't slept in 24 hours, that will do it. hahaha)

My thought precisely. We know they are working on bigger things, the battle system being the main priority for now, and while doing so, they add little changes like this. Now, some people might be disapproving of this, but I am not.

IMHO, seeing a HUGE rat/marmot is more ridiculous than slaying tiny ones at first levels...
But on topic: just increasing the size of the effects might do the trick for some spells/skills, but it doesn't change the fact that higher level won't have that spectacular of an effect.

Come on SE, your games, especially FF, are known for mind blowing visual effects, what happened here?

P.S.: am I the only one who can't enlarge the image (permission denied page)?

We have seen one image - one. At least I feel we should wait with being negative until we see the effects in game.

Scrapping things and making new ones isn't necessarily a good solution. Increasing the size of mobs definitely made combat more enjoyable for me, so I don't see why increasing the size of spell effects couldn't have the same effect.

There are way more important things to work on than putting the FX designers of the game to work on completely remaking the spell effects.

I'm starting to see a BAD trend in the playerbase (actually, I'm not starting, it's been there all along):
"i'm not entirely satisfied with this element of the game... SCRAP IT!!! Remake it from scratch!"

    +1 for what Arc said.
    +1 for bigger spell effects.

For me, yes, the animation SIZE is a problem. However, for me, again, It's more the quality of the effects than the size.. They're lackluster, they come and go and all look the same, there's no difference between casting each spell that's that visible besides a little colour alteration in the animation, I don't feel it's substantial enough a change.

Same for 99% of abilities beyond the spell, it's just not enough to make them bigger. Compare Tier I to Tier II, who see's the difference? Size won't change much.

There's an over-abundance of lackluster spell and ability animations in this game, and while yes, they need to be a bit bigger, it doesn't address the fundamental problem.

    However.

If this is Square's first step in a redesign process for animations and battle graphics then, fair enough, great. But they haven't given us any information. Just the mediocrity that is one sample picture and a dev tag for us all to ravage over these damn forums.

Give us some substantial information and stop pussy-footing around with your minute playerbase!!

If they need the time and resource for other things then don't change it yet. I'm ok with a message that state will be fixing battle animations after we release XYZ. Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience. I don't need nor want quick fixes. I am ok with waiting for SE to take care of the more important stuff first and then hitting the quests, mobs, and spells when that is all said and done. I am not all about scrapping certain aspects of the game, not sure where you got that from, I just want things done correctly the first time not a fix, then a fix to the fix, and more fixes later. Look at the current side quest system. Do things right the first time and you won't have to constantly waste even more time and resources on the fixes.

+3 for the bold and honest statement. My thoughts exactly

I have to agree with this, whilst it might not be the most groundbreaking change it's these little things that are going to make a big difference overall. It's true that some later spells DO need new spell effects (same with weaponskills, some really suck), but I they also need to be bigger and this will help towards fixing it.

Also I think considering how much communication we've had with the dev team recently, it seems more likely that when the game's in a better state if people were to kick up a fuss about the effects they'd be much more likely to overhaul them.

For now though, this is great.
