An MMO has ALOT of crap going on.

    A-Helluva-Lot

The main issue the Playstation 3 in particular hits is 'Memory'

MMO's have to do alot more than some of the games you may have played on your PS3 so far.
Think about all the crap going on

    Options
    Menus
    3D Models
    Textures
    Sounds
    Particles/Effects
    Messages
    Number Crunching
    Animations
    ALL DAT GRAZZ

    All happening in ""realtime"".

This chews up memory like crazy.

The PS3 is very limited in memory now for gaming standards, this is one issue developers hit with most games of this calibur.

Another is processing power, balancing performance and quality can be a difficult task.
The original reason why FFXIV 1.0 simply did not run on a PS3

    For example;
    PS3 ~230 Gigaflops
    Gaming PC ~1.0-3.0 Teraflops

And even those PC's had trouble with FFXIV 1.0 and evidently FFXIV:ARR (Although considerably less so than 1.0)

    TL;DR

For what they are achiveing so far on the PS3, just be thankfull they even got it to work.
