    DoL Housing features?

    This idea struck me kind of randomly, but what do people think of the possibility of DoL players having the potential to create a feature for personal housing that essentially becomes a gatherable node?

    Botanists could be able to plant a tree and once that tree begins to grow it could become a loggable node.

    Fishermen could have a pond.

    Miners (unfortunately this becomes a little abstract, but) could have a small mine or quarry.

    It could even be fleshed out to the point where decisions you make regarding the feature could change potential yields later on.

    Anyway, have at it.

    It sounds kinda nice but I kinda figure that any plants, ponds, or rocks that you place on your property if there is any, are strictly just for cosmetic reasons. Just for show ya know.

    That's what I'd expect. But wouldn't it be fun if sometime on the road to being a level 50 botanist you were entrusted with a sapling, and as you grew as a botanist it grows as a tree, and eventually you get a nice feature for your house that shows you have a level 50 botanist AND you can gather materials from it?

    haha... the planting a tree just reminded me of BOF4, fertilizing a tree with certain items to get certain items back. Yeah i could see it happening and the idea has cropped up but not always in the same way. It's one of those things that would prolly work best if it was a slow gradual process.

    Like say, Botanist plants trees and flowers(i.e. Nier) and slowly grows them over time building them up towards a certain reward by fertilizing them with certain items. Fisher going out catching fish and adding them to the pond and then feeding them up with bait to increase their quality or something like that(i.e. Dark Cloud 2). Miner is the harder one to imagine due to it not dealing in a renewable source but i imagine thats where our dear old friend the crystal would come in =P Feed the crystal which causes it to grow, chip away at it to reduce it's size and get items depending on what you fed it. Like gems and such.

    Yeah, since the first post I had the idea that miners could acquire a crystal shard that when buried would eventually turn into an upswelling of rock.

    I like the idea that it is something the player can choose to maintain, but perhaps nothing that needs to be maintained on a set schedule. Something along the lines of after a certain period of time passes the next time you interact with it you are asked for input, either through a choice or a special item and once you provide that it moves into the start of the next phase. But not something where if you miss a deadline the tree dies...
