How about this for a second go at a logo? I took murf's idea and ran with it in just a tiny little bit of a different direction.

The Astronomical Society of Eorzea!
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/142965-The-Astronomical-Society-of-Eorzea

Hello! I've been reading along for a bit here...
I just wanted to say thank you for creating this thread, Murf, and thanks to everyone for turning this thread into such a titillating discussion!
On to the name of the EAS, I feel that The Astronomer's Guild makes the most sense (so I'm in agreement with Enkidoh here), and it could be called TAG for short, with a logo depicting a cute lalafellin male (ahem *me*) poking a star and going "Tag! You're it!".
I am not entirely sure how serious the above suggestion is, but I do have a question, and perhaps a silly one at that: Do Eorzeans refer to the observation or study of stars as ASTRONOMY? If not, then I take issue with its use. Observer's Guild? Stargazer's Guild? Starcatcher's Guild?
But I'm just a Starlurker, here - so I don't really deserve to have a say in its name.![]()

A lore-compatible term for astronomer? Interesting idea. But there was an Astrologer FF job, so "astronomy" probably isn't a term outside the realm of possibility.
Guild is sort of an active term. Astronomers are mostly passive observers and scholars, so I kind of prefer "society" more. It sounds more social and maybe even distinguished.
But those are just my thoughts. They're neither right nor wrong.
To be honest, some of my interest is about moon phases and other cyclical/calendrical elemental influences on things, like crafting or fishing. That's kind of astrological, really.SE was right to name the job "astrologer", one who manipulates things in the heavens to influence things planetside.

Is Dalamud still visible in 2.0?
I thought we, you know, sorted that whole business out.

Well, the 'New Beginning' trailer sure didn't show it anywhere, and let's face it - Bahamut blew it into a billion pieces that rained down over Eorzea as fiery rain, so yeah, I seriously doubt it's going to make some kind of return in ARR.![]()
I've been under the impression that each of the 12 would have their own constellation in the sky. The sanctum of the twelve led me to believe that. Like the zodiac. Maybe choosing one during character creation will have benefits this time. Well it has to because of the sanctum...As an astronomy buff in the real lifes, I was growing to wonder if Eorzea had any form of categorization with its night sky. Are there constellations? Do any stars have names? Can we see other planets and what are they named? Are they based on myths, or real life sources? Do different races/clans and city states have different constellations?
I know it's not critical to the story or anything, but I think such details lend a modicum of detail to the culture of the world. Pretty much every major civilization on Earth had categorized and partitioned the night sky in this manner even before the advent of telescopes. So why would Eorzea be any different?
(I'll check my complaints about certain physical impossibilities of lunar phase movement across the sky at the door. That's a post for another time.)
Also. Judging by the fine print at the bottom of your post...will there be no moon phases?!
