A question about Male Miqo'te name / tradition

My husband has been begging me to post this for him(he didn't play 1.0 so he cant post yet). so here we go(all his words):

After reading all of the lore posted here for miqo'te naming and seeker of the sun lore, I have two questions on naming and RP issues. A breeding males last name is Nunh and a non breeding is Tia i'm good on that however, if during the calamity (I know we don't know what happened yet but im too excited about this game to not think about things like this) his immediate tribal members were killed and through some way only he survived. If he joined another tribe his name would change to reflect that tribe and he would be a tia I assume.

What though if he decided to forgo breeding duties and joining another tribe and decided to wander instead(possibly out of a want of vengeance against the Garleans for the calamity). Would he still remain Tia? or would he becoming a nunh?

    also would this behavior make him an outcast to other seekers? Sorry I know its a silly post but I'm really into this lore and game >.>;;;

edit: also is there a miqo'te word for something like avenger or something along those lines that anyone knows?

OR, he could keep his original tribal identity and try to rebuild it to its former glory himself by bringing in females from other tribes, in which case he would be nunh. As to how successfully he could pry females away from other tribes, that's hard to say, and he'd probably have to have a show of some impressive manly deeds to woo them over. This still would involve some tribe switching, it just alters whether the male or females are switching.

In either case I think they would indeed adopt the new letter if switching tribes.

Be careful not to confuse breeding male for alpha male. These terms seem to be neither synonymous nor mutually exclusive in Seekers of the Sun culture. Before we get to that, though, let's make sure part of his backstory is solid. The original 26 tribes of Miqo'te are well-established and rather permanent, whereas new tribes are vulnerable and almost always die out. This would be critical to his history, as surely none of the existing 26 tribes were wiped out in the Calamity.

Therefore, the cause of his self-imposed isolation would be pretty specific. More than likely, he was part of a newer tribe, whose names would start with two letters before the apostrophe instead of the usual one (since all the letters are taken up). He could also have been part of a group within the 26, but it'd be more difficult to explain the politics. Just keep that in mind, whatever he chooses.

Now, again, the leader is not necessarily the breeding male.
You're not a nunh if you don't have 20~50 ladies with you.

This leaves him a few options.

    • Join a new tribe, change the pre-apostrophe letter, take on Tia, go get revenge
    • Keep old tribe's pre-apostrophe letter(s), use an adjective/title as a last name to wear the isolation as armor.
    • Keep old tribe's pre-apostrophe letter(s), be a Tia. Nobody asks questions, but you still don't have 50 ladies.
    • Keep old tribe's pre-apostrophe letter(s), be a nunh, rebuild the tribe (doesn't leave much time or stamina for revenge)
    • Become a true loner. Drop the pre-apostrophe entirely, use only a given name and an adjective/title surname.

Based on his backstory, I'm assuming options 2 and 5 will be most attractive to him. So, let's throw out examples.

Let's say his old tribe was a newer tribe (these have a hard time getting going when they break off from the main 26, so it'd explain how a single tragedy could wipe them all out). Likely, it would have been a single nunh, a few odd tia, and the 20~ women who felt like this was a worthwhile venture - maybe bigger if this was one of the rare instances the tribe picked up some momentum. We'll say their letters were... Fe and he was a Tia in that culture with the given name... Rnehalwes. He'd have been Fe'rnehalwes Tia. Then the Calamity hit and everybody died. Keeping the name Avenger as a template, he'd have ended up Fe'rnehalwes Avenger if he decided to keep the name of the fallen tribe, not join a new one, and not actually take part in rebuilding its structure. Or, he could just drop it and be Rnehalwes Avenger to show he has no tribe, he has nothing. He is just him.

Option six: Become an adventurer registered under an amusing alias. All races/clans/tribes have this option.

I went for option 3 for my Male Miq'ote. He is proud of his lineage, but he had no aspiration to lead the tribe nor serve as a breeding male for the tribe. There is only one female Miq'ote he wanted to protect and take under his wings.*

Like Moose said, the 26 tribes have been around for a long time, so it's not unthinkable that several tribes have settled in different regions, forming different branches of the same tribe.

In the background story I wrote, the Miq'otes mentioned in it were part of such a branch. These tribesmen were rather strict with their rule that only female Miq'otes were only allowed to bear children from Nuhns. Bearing children from a Tia was an act of heresy.

I've placed that story on my blog. Maybe it can serve as a form of inspiration for your story.
