Sunseekers: Ways to become nunh other than the listed ones?

So the official guide lists two ways how a tia can become nunh:
    - defeat a nunh
    - leave and found their own tribe

What about... a nunh of a tribe dying (hunting, old age, etc). If the tribe wants to keep their nunh/tia ratio, they'd have to somehow get a nunh... Do they just host a championship and the winner gets the nunh title?

Also, what happens should a tribe run out of nunhs?

I doubt it would come to old age... a tia would have challenged him by then. But if it's unexpected like a hunting accident, then the idea of a championship sounds likely to me. Actually probably more of a free-for-all melee than anything as organized as a championship...

If a tribe completely ran out of males? Sounds like an opportunity for a tia from another tribe to come in and become a nunh of his own without worrying about enough females following him.

    Also:

If they can maintain it for an extended period of time, then they become the nunh of that area, while still remaining a member of their original tribe.

This actually happens quite often. And is far more accepted than merely leaving the tribe to make one's own (which, ultimately makes that person an outcast). This is why you will almost never see Seekers of the Sun with tribal letters beyond the original 26 (like the Ma'shtola I mentioned earlier). There are simply not that many, and those that do exist, rarely admit it, for fear of ostracism.

Pretty sure it was stated that Nunh rarely become leaders, and I think this includes leaders in combat. Even though the Nunh is the strongest of the tribe, I doubt they'd put their best breeding male in any sort of danger. Perhaps one of the perks of being a Nunh is that you don't have to risk yourself as often, but it also means others tend to surpass you because they aren't sitting around. After a couple of years or so the Nunh is challenged and overcome, resulting in a healthy rotation of breeding males.

Interesting, missed that post (they should add a lore tracker!) Though for a tia to be accepted by females, he'd have to be tested somehow, I guess that's my real question: What kind of a test does a tia have to pass to become a nunh, if there is no nunh to defeat? Fern's example of maintaining new territory for their tribe is one thing I guess.

Eh, I'd say having to defend against wannabe-nunh (aka tia) all the time keeps them in shape AND is enough of a danger, since losing doesn't just mean you will lose your title and become a tia again, but could also cost you your life.

So I don't think they're that sheltered. Also, you don't really have to be a leader to participate in combat. And you could also die by stumbling and breaking your neck :P

Based on this new info, it wouldn't be totally out of place then to say all the male Miqo's in Eorzea are tia that came here to make new hunting grounds to become nunh.

But then, how big is a hunting ground? Would it be as big as a single region (Shroud, Thanalan, Coerthas, La Noscea), or can/should they be as large as Eorzea as a whole? Hmm.

    Good question!

Big enough to sustain the 20-50 females (and the few odd tia) which will follow the nunh. If we're talking an area that only contains ground squirrels, it'll have to be pretty large...

What happens if they defeat a Nunh from another tribe? Does that count as expanding territory or a hostile take over? 0.o

Incase ppl not noticed yet but the Sunseeker System is pretty similar to the ones of our Lions (which i mentioned in a other Lore Thread).

If you see it in that combine the Question is, how up-to-date is the Hunting Ground part in a Modern World like Eorzea?
Because that way i would start to see those Hunting Ground groups like Bandits.

Or they have a business running like in this Thread . . .

I dunno, have you seen how many of those things you can kill in a day by staying in the same spot? Monsters breed like rabbits, it's crazy. It seems there's no such thing as an endangered species in Eorzea!
