I do not doubt that it does not hurt anyone else. My qualm is that it seems kind of contrary to the spirit of the game

Not to nitpick, but the game, in it's current state and playability, has no "spirit" whatsoever. Pretty much the only thing you can do is grind battles or crafts, or dig up crow feathers and copper ore for hours on end.
